Only three contenders for me, and it's close. Connery and Moore are the smoothest of the Bonds ever, I also share a birthday with Roger Moore.

Despite the irresistible and enigmatic coolness of Connery and Moore however, it's Craig's roughness that get's my vote. He's a more realistic Bond who does get hurt and beaten up, whilst maintaining the calm exterior at the same time. Craig's Bond is just so much easier to relate to in my opinion. Whilst Craig was fortunate to be given the roll when Bond was 'refreshed', I think he pulled it off superbly.

It's a poll..... tick a box.

Its the old Embra postie for me. Forget all this sensitive new man nonsense....a Bond for all others to aspire to! B)

I like Craig as bond but it is always Connery for me, Moore was too camp for my tastes but Connery was always manly with an edge.

If it hadn't been Connery at the start, I doubt the franchise would have lasted this long.

He created a role that others can only hope to match, never exceed.

Lazenby was best in the Cadbury's Flake commercials, with my then girl-friend. His greatest role.

Roger Moore never let it get serious, camped it up worse than the Saint.

Pierce Brosnan I remember most for his role in Mamma Mia - where he showed the world that he is the worst singer imaginable.

Timothy who?

Moore's arrogance always seemed to strike me as the quintessential Bond. The writing in that era was also the best.

The next one will be the greatest, Sam Worthington.

Bond is many things, however, being HM's top specialist/assasin puts him in front of the flock.

Being this, I have to give the vote to Craig as he is able to portray that "I couldn't give a dam_n look of pure malevolence" as he depatches the bad dudes, better than any of the others.

I give my vote to Craig. He pulled it off. Otherwise would have been Connery. At the time Connery was perfect, but Craig injects a modern bond flavour for todays society.

Ditto eek. and the swimming suit scene didn't hurt ;)

All but guaranteeing a Bond girl thread with your comment. Cheers sbk! :)

I read all of the Ian Fleming novels in the early 60s and with the release of the early Bond films Bond and Sean Connery are inseparable...when I was 15 y/o I got a green webbed strap to go with my cheap wristwatch and also managed to find a packet of 'Turkish Special' cigarettes, both featured in one of the Bond novels at the time...

then I fell out with one of my pals who claimed that Conan Doyle's books were just as good...he said: 'but look, The Hound of the Baskervilles is really neat'...I said: 'no way a book that ain't got no Saville Row suits and no Rolex is gonna be cool...'...Fleming was big on brand names...

we need another poll: who is more cool?, Arthur Conan Doyle or Ian Fleming? both enjoyed critical success on the big screen and who was the best Holmes? Basil Rathbone, hands down, although I was never much into costume drama as a lad...:)

it wasn't until I saw Zeferelli's Romeo and Juliet in 1968 and A Man for all Seasons (1970?) that I reconsidered...although I always liked the Errol Flynn swashbucklers when I was a kid...

right now on VN satellite TV there is a remake of Bedtime Story originally with Brando and David Niven and now with Steve Martin and Michael Caine...a really stupid movie...but...which is the best?

Have to agree with eek and SB.

If you had asked this question before Bond was resurrected, I would have instantly gone for Connery without even thinking about it, but now......
