Suprised both my wife and I when the news here in the USA showed Phayao and the celebration for Loy Kratong. All the people, fireworks, people having fun. Very unusual to see Phayao in the news and sure wish we could have been there. I assume Chiang Rai had the same.

I understand there is a time difference over there but in these parts, Loy Kratong is not till Sunday. ;)

Hehehehe.

Phayao people probably need a practice run.

Asked the wife about that and she said some places do it at different times. About 15 minutes away from Phayao where we live in Dok Kham tai, they did their thing a few days earlier. Wife says not everyone does the little boat things the same day because people in smaller towns do it earlier so they also can go to bigger places, like Phayao 2 days ago, and maybe Chiang rai later or Bangkok, etc. Celebrate more than 1 place at different dates.

Hard to believe the smaller towns in Chiang Rai area do not do the same.

Sunday 21st in Chiang Saen too :)

Chiang Saen has a lot larger population than Dok Kham tai, Phayao and not a village so to speak. I think Dok Kham tai has about 6000 people, Phayao maybe 20,000. Interesting though the subject why everyone does not celebrate the same day. I only relayed what my wife said.

Hope to hear from other folks here living in smaller communities. Or I can post on other area on the forums and ask. Just curious.

Well yeah I guess Chiang Saen is kinda reasonably sized...Sob Kham being the village is only about 3km away so I guess they just follow suit. Hadn't really thought about it till you mentioned it. Interesting :)

Jubbs I'm not ganging up on him :P You're the one bringing tadpoles to christmas dinner!

I thought it was weird also to show the video on Thai tv in Phayao here in the states when it was not the holiday date. Is Jubbs French? They like frog legs. :D

See how many Thai Channels you can get on www.whereevertv.com it's 100% free.

In Australia you can get TGN (Thai Global Network) anywhere in the country for a cost of around $150.00 for Sat Dish and Decoder. Its a mixture of differant channels here in Thailand.
