The water level in Bangwad Dam reservoir has dropped dramatically while authority is negotiating with private owners of old mine land.

The short rainfall during this year’s rainy season in the Phuket & Andaman area is resulting in a dramatic decline in the Bangwad Dam reservoir under the control of the Phuket Irrigation Department. This leads to the office’s concern about a water shortage and it expects to supply raw water only until August the 23rd to the Phuket Waterworks office. According to Sayan Arunwaree, the Manager of the Phuket Waterworks office, it has reduced production capacity to 12,000 cubic metres per day from 45,000 cubic metres to save water. Mr Sayan went on to say that the water reserve is now 500,000 cubic meters and it will seek cooperation from Loch Palm Golf Course and other private water sources which should be able to supply water until September this year.
