Nice story, reminds me of a two incidents.

The first was a few years ago now, I booked a car from Pattaya to BKK airport, on arrival at the airport I got my baggage paid the driver including a tip and proceeded to check in, after completing the check-in formalities I noticed the driver calling to me from barriers from which those with out tickets were not allowed to pass, he was waving my camera which I had inadvertently left on his back seat, he would not accept my offer of a reward but gave me his card and asked me to use his taxi service next time I was in town, I feel so guilty about loosing his card.

The second was back in April this year, I was travelling back Jomtien late at night on a full Baht Bus and my girlfriend was sitting opposite, as we approached the Hanuman Statue an American who had been sitting next to me got off, shortly after my girlfriend pointed out that my phone had fallen out of my pocket on to the seat, but it was not mine and assumed it must be the Americans, I suggested giving it to the driver but she said better not and we held onto it anticipating the rightful owner would call in the hope that someone found it and would tell him where to collect it.

We arrived back at the condo and shortly afterwards the phone rang, I answered expecting an person speaking English, but turned out to be the Americans hotel receptionist who spoke little English so I passed on the call to my girlfriend who told the receptionist where the American could come to collect his phone, she (we) would be waiting outside our condo for him (it was not far, about 1 mile down Beach Road), there seemed to be some exchange of words between my girlfriend, the receptionist and the American who wanted my girlfriend to bring the phone to him to which she was not willing, shortly after we went down stairs to wait for the American, I waited at a near by table when the American turned up on a motorbike taxi, rather indignant at my girlfriend for not coming to his hotel, certainly no reward, not even a thank you, fortunately my girlfriend being a good Buddhist by just doing a good deed was reward itself even if the recipient was not appreciative.

Makes me die how a simple act of honest becomes newsworthy here..:D

I think that would have made the news in pretty much any major tourist city worldwide! Good on the taxi driver. Great stuff.

i think the very fact that it made the news here is more of a social comment on the honesty of taxi drivers in general

seemingly finding a rose amongst thorns is being heralded as outstanding by the press

i lived in a major tourist resort for 20 years and never once saw a similar case being reported in the press

It would make the news back where I use to live...New York City....I use to see it on the local news every once in a while. It was rare when it happened!

Just the fact that his name is "Mr Fuka" on holiday in Pattaya is worthy of a mention, nice one.

I once left my bag in a cab in Singapore.

It contained all my families passports, birth certs, marraige cert, tambian ban, chanute for the house and Sing i.d. cards.

I was in bits as the cab was simply hailed on the street, not booked.

So after some frantic calls to cab companies to send out an urgent message, and biting all my finger nails off, the cab came back to where I had been dropped off.

I,ll not forget one of the receptionists ask me what the drivers name was, displayed on the window of the cab, I did remember his name was KOK.

So I told her and she wanted the other names as, apparently, she told me that they had many KOK's

I was in no mood to laugh then though, I was in pieces.

I could have kissed the driver but dont think he would have appreciated it so gave him a reward. He didn't want it, but I made sure he got it.

Never again will I leave a bag in a cab, ever.
