Variety is the spice of life :jap:

And now Pattaya has as excellent affordable Vietnamese Restaurant.

Food is super fresh and well priced , lovely staff (one very attractive owner who speaks good english) and highly recommended.

Just past the new TOT building on 3rd Road (same side) heading towards Nakula - small map enclosed to give a general idea with my English additions.

Look forward to some other members opinions (insert Jingthing)

I was hoping for some good Pho. Why not? The Pho at the place at Central of course doesn't cut it.

BTW, some months ago I walked by a "Vietnamese" restaurant on 3rd road between Pattaya Tai and the overpass to Jomtien. Very casual. I looked at the menu pictures (don't remember if there was an English menu) and the food looked more Thai than Vietnamese. I hope this new place isn't similar.

^Careefour has an entrance accessible from Third Road.

If it doesn't have a name what is there to distinguish it from the hundreds of other shop houses along the road?

Porn Nam Neung

Double open style shop house restaurant selling Vietnamese food , you cant miss it as new and airy.

Next to a place called Super Rich money exchange.

It's the Bees Knees when it comes to a local Vietnamese restaurant....

I second the recommendation!

But this is for the most part most definitely THAI STYLE Vietnamese food. But it is GOOD Thai style Vietnamese food. Plus everyone working there is very friendly and charming, there is a clear picture menu with English labels, the food tastes great, and the prices are painless as well.

What more could you want?

Well pho, bun bowls, Vietnamese sandwiches, catfish claypot, etc. etc.

But for what it is, and it is what it is, it is most definitely a GO for food lovers. Just don't expect the same style as back in Paris, Montreal, San Francisco, Sydney, or Saigon.

I had --

fried sticky rice balls (yummy, and a little sweet)

tom yum clear pork rib bones soup (not labeled that way on the menu, but that was basically what it was, and it was also labeled tom yum on the check, but it was delish, but it wasn't Vietnamese)

Grilled pork stuff rice paper served with dipping sauce and variety of leaves (simple and good)

No complaints, but praise actually, but again temper your expectations about the style. Also, based on the pictures, I am sure I wouldn't love every dish they serve, but the pictures do reflect the dishes, so it's easy, order what looks good to you.

Their specialty of course is nam neung, which perhaps is the most popular Vietnamese dish in THAILAND, get the picture, THAILAND.

In any case, definitely do go and support this charming new restaurant. They deserve the business and you deserve the delicious food.

Not really, its on 3rd, not Pattaya Klang, Carrefour is good walk from there.

Understood...there is an entrance to Carrefour there also....near Mooks....let's you sneak in the back way!

I ate there last night with my gf, my friend and his Vietnamese gf.

Everyone was happy, and the Vietnamese woman immediately asked about when we would be eating there again.

I did not see any sign on the front which indicated that the restaurant had Vietnamese food.

For those of you looking for it, it is the first shop following the big empty lot after the TOT building. When coming from Central Road, it is before the entrance to the Carefour parking lot from the back. It is a double shophouse i size, and all of the tables are light brown wood.

The salted fried chicken was good. The vegetarian spring rolls (not deep fried) were very good as well. The others all had pork with everything, and they were happy with all of it.

The name of the restaurant is something like Pam Nam Neung written in Thai, so Thai people will see immediately it is a Vietnamese place. Also there are large picture signs with some Vietnamese looking food. It really isn't hard to find, especially if you look at the map.

These directions are good. When coming from Central Road, heading north, it's on the left.

It's right opposite a place called 'D'Or Spa And Healthy'.

The restaurant as yet has no sign outside in English although the waitress said this was on its way.

The restaurant is brightly lit so has little atmosphere. But the food is clean and tasty and great value.

It's on my list for repeat visits.

Just bumping this thread up.

I ate again there this week.

Not many customers at 6pm.

But this restaurant is still very good!

Disclaimer: I have no connection with the restaurant other than as a customer.

Ate here this morning before noon. Sorry, but rather poor experience. I ordered the noodles cream soup, which is the last item on the menu. It turned out to be a plate of noodles with a strangely coloured sauce. Asked the waitress ''where is the soup'', the reply was ''inside Mister''. As I thought my order was basically noodle soup, I left it.

Partner ordered fresh spring rolls with prawns. She was not pleased, saying she could make better herself. I tasted a small portion and found it contained basically green foliage with a microscopic quantity of shrimp or prawn --- it was so small, that it might have been a paste.

A Vietnamese restaurant without Pho Bo on the menu, is very odd indeed.

The place was nice and airy, but we were the only customers. It is also not expensive. Overall, rather sad, as the earlier posts were all so positive.

There is a nice French boulangerie across the road, and the croissant tasted very well.

Is there any particular reason why people use vague terms like "not expensive" rather than just saying "noodles are 40B" or "our meal for two came to 200B" or whatever?

I might walk up to this place tonight, if it isnt raining. I have happy memories of a great Vietnamese place in a food court in Manila, run by Vietnamese nuns. That was back in the days of the boat people. It was about the only food within 10 miles that had what I would call "proper" flavour ie flavour that bites back. No shortage of that here, thankfully.

In Vietnam, pho is generally done by pho specialist restaurants. Basically this place is a nam neung specialist restaurant (with other options), something rather typical with Vietnamese places in Thailand for some historical reason I don't know. I did talk to the owner about pho, telling her that westerners expect to see pho at a Vietnamese restaurant. She seemed interested until I told he that if she does pho she has to do it properly with the typical spices and with the broth simmered for MANY hours or the westerners lover of Vietnamese food would know it wasn't real. I think her reaction to that, though not direct, was forget about it!

I think I know exactly what dish on their menu this is and I think it's delicious. 40 or 60 baht. Shame you didn't at least taste it.

I'm not saying everything on the menu is great but I live locally and still eat at this restaurant about once a week and think it's great.

Oh well, I started out in good faith, got as far as 3rd Rd/Klang, got bored with all the closed shops and walked back to Soi Buakow. I will try again in the daytime.

3rd Rd and Klang after about 8pm at night seem so deserted and empty compared to 2nd Rd and Buakow.
