Christmas Lunch is important to me, so after the disappointment of Thanksgiving at Don's (run by Don's staff in his absence), I will not be taking a chance on this.

If you are thinking of going, it may be an idea to check whether Don will be there, as I understand that if he is the experience will be a lot more organised and enjoyable than if he is not.

Come on DON, answer your critics. I for one am also disappointed in the food and service and I have not been back in ages. The last time my meal was ruined by the smell of dog shi* wafting up from the floor under the restaurant seating area. All of the people with me were checking their shoes but even moving tables didnt change anything and investigating further the source was found, piles of crap everywhere.

As for the food, a very very very long wait and even then, cold on arrival .

Part of the ambience of Thailand al fresco dining?

Reminds me of a reminiscence, (us old Asia hands love reminiscing if we can find a willing victim).

I was dining on the banks of the Mekong at Vientiane with a former true love and friends and she tossed a chicken bone to the pack of scrofulous dogs hanging around hopefully.

"You shouldn't give dogs chicken bones" says I' like a great big farang prat.

The resulting stunned silence from my fellow diners was truly memorable.
