The Latest Wikileaks Revelation: 1 In Three British Muslim Students Back Killing For Islam And 40% Want Sharia Law

Featured Replies

Around a third of young British Muslims favour killing in the name of Islam, according to a survey revealed by the WikiLeaks' publication of U.S diplomatic cables.

A survey of 600 Muslim and 800 non-Muslim students at 30 universities throughout the UK conducted by the Centre for Social Cohesion found that 32 percent of Muslims on UK campuses believe killing in the name of religion is justified.

A U.S. diplomatic cable from January 2009 quoted the same poll as saying 54 per cent wanted a Muslim party to represent their world view in Parliament and 40 per cent want Muslims in the UK to be under Sharia law.

Under the fair use policy, you can quote only the first three sentences of the article and then link to the story.

This is done for legal reasons as well as keeping the threads from getting cluttered when articles are quoted.

Thanks.

I have never understood why British Muslims seem to be so radical. Are they really more radical?

I've not read it yet, but this is the daily mail. I suspect they are being quite economical with the truth

No, it's OK you can believe this one. It is from that British hero Julian Assange.

Even without reading it, there is a perception that a lot of British Muslims are radical. There seems to be more problems than other western countries. Remember the radical cleric who I think they extradited to the US?

He's Australian

It's from a poll and the poll is cited in a leaked US cable.

As I understand it, the US seemed like it was interested in 'reaching out' to British Muslims. They must have seen them as either a threat or that it was important to win them over. ....or keep an eye on them. ....or recruit spies?

I didn't mean to suggest he was British by birth but that he was a hero in Britain. Right up there with Martin Luther King so his jail guard from the pedo wing of the prison said. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1340173/I-locked-paedophiles-child-killers-WikiLeaks-boss-Julian-Assange-tells-prison-hell.htm

Note to posters:

With 3 threads running on roughly the same topic, let's make sure we keep our posts in the right thread. This one is for Wikileaks related information. The other thread open will be left about Assange.

Thanks.

Do these people not realise that with these views, they'll end up proving Enoch Powell's views were right.

If it was a poll throughout the UK by the Centre for Social Cohesion , why was a US State dept cable needed to be leaked to know the results?

Perhaps that's what they want

Good question.

This would be the sort of thing that the right wingers would relish telling the public about.

I wonder if the Daily Mail realises that it's giving these loons a far greater audience than they deserve? If it wasn't for these sensationalist articles that the Mail publishes on a regular basis the only people who would ever have heard of Anjem Choudry or any of the other nutters would be 3 blokes at their local mosque and the Special Branch/MI5. The Mail is doing their job for them.

Totally agree.

They want publicity, good or bad, keeps them being noticed.

I'm not saying ignoring them will solve anything.

Just possibly keep more idiots from joining.

Media top recruitment.

you mean Boater is not the only Daily Mail reader?

Might be what they wanted, it wasn't what Enoch Powell wanted. He was warning Britain that if we didn't wake up and tackle the problem there would be 'rivers of blood'. And he was right. 7/7 and the unsuccessful follow-on attacks are only a foretaste of what will come.

And David Icke predicted a global financial meltdown. Does this mean we should start believing in lizard people from another dimension as well?

:clap2:

Perhaps we should. The Illuminati have recently been mentioned in this forum by a staunch right-winger no less (albeit he's a frequenter of Marina's in CM.....not that that should have anything to do with it).

I think the catch that everyone needs to look at rather carefully is that this is a rather small sample of a rather limited group of people (University students).  We can was 1/3 favor killing in the name of Islam and 40% want Sharia law or we can say:

2/3 DO NOT favor killing in the name of Islam.

60% DO NOT want Sharia law.

In some regards these numbers are not too surprising.  A little worrying, but not surprising.  As a minority group with cultural issues, they would most likely be conservative.  It would be interesting to see the same survey done with a wider scope of people.

Although you make a valid point, I think that we should all keep in mind that this is a deliberately sensationalist article,

I have not read the transcripts of the survey, and so I will stand to be corrected, but I daresay that the "results" as portrayed are grossly skewed by taking the respondant's answers out of context or cherry-picking key words and spinning them.

For example..... the article quotes "32 percent of Muslims on UK campuses believe killing in the name of religion is justified...." yet the caption to the photo ( a specially picked photo, no doubt) states "a third of Muslim college students favour killing in the name of Islam.."

"Religion" and "Islam" are not synonymous, but The Daily Mail will have readers think so in this context

Conceding that a religious motive is justified is a philosophical answer, not neccessarily a secular answer, nor is it neccesarily the belief of the respondant.

Alot depends on how the questions were presented and couched, and how the answers were made.

He is not a a staunch right-winger and he was laughing at people who believe in the Illuminati, but just what is "Marina's in CM"?

Right Winger would be far too left for the unmentioned person. Reactionary is more accurate

And yes what is "Marina's in CM"?

'Right-wingers" do not vote for Obama and believe in legalizing soft drugs and abortion. Not a far-left wacko would be much more accurate. ;)

(CM ...Chiang Mai). My mistake.... having never been there, I assumed it was Marina's Bar, but apparently it is Marina Bar.....UG knows it as we have had it mentioned before.

Actually - as often happens with your claims - I have no idea of what you are referring to.

Knowing UG it was probably more to do with marinara than Marina's,

I can hope that this is friendly banter, but others may not. So back to the 'Latest Wikileaks Revelations'.......
