...what a steaming pile of poo.

Special effects may be getting better and better, but decent plots are getting thinner on the ground.

Are movies dumbing us down?

What happened to decent plot lines?

I struggled to keep awake.

..but at least i didnt have to start gnawing my own foot off (instead of tearing off my face and chucking it at the movie screen)..which, i had to do for the Twilight movie..

I watched "The Road" this week, I found it quite disturbing, which I suppose is what the makers intended.

I'm afraid so eek ;)

It is a real surprise to find a good flick these days,

Here in the US ticket prices have also gotten so high you

hate to go given the poor track record/plot lines.

That is one thing nice in CM...the price of admission is not so bad.

Yeah I saw that & agree....Not much different than the Book of Eli

Not really, I pretty well forgot "The Book of Eli" soon after watching it, but "The Road" never really left any pretence of future hope. The boy was safe for a while but nothing had really changed.

"The Book Of Eli" was more of a "Mad Max" clone.

I've got to get a copy of "The Road", I've yet to read anything by Cormac McCarthy and it could be a good start.

Yes in hindsight...Eli was more of a mad max wasn't it

I heard from a pal The Road/book was very good

So it sucked, huh? My girls went to see it yesterday and seemed less than spellbound by it. I put it down to not seeing the original but maybe it just wasn't that good. How disappointing.

Yes Lannarebirth, unfortunately so :( I really wouldnt rate it. Was looking forward to it too, because i enjoyed the original one. Was nice to see Jeff Bridges in the new movie, but even he, and the few good special effects, didnt make up for the poor plot (in my opinion).

But..i DO recommend the movie "Seven Pounds". Not a new movie, but recently saw it.

Any decent recommendations that actually have a good plot line?

Twilight was more like a soap than a movie.

I thought it was terrible

Even my 14 yo daughter who read all the books and just lives for that crap couldn't make it through the third one. :D

I'm constantly amazed at how terrible some high budget movies are. Like eek says, there's no plot and everything written is done by some hack who hasn't a creative idea in his body. Everything is totally unbelievable and so far fetched I don't understand the reasoning... considering how much it costs to produce a movie. I can accept space aliens invading earth. I can accept silly behaviour. But what I can't accept is people doing stupid things that are totally without reason.

There are so many good writing artists with truly creative ideas that it's hard to accept the crap being foisted off on us. I'll never go to another movie theatre because I don't trust the producers. I'll wait till it comes out on a cheap DVD rental.

Everything today is special effects, but with no creative writing.

I got sucked in last year by the Sherlock Holmes movie. Boy did I enjoy those stories and the old B & W movies with Basil Rathbone. What a disappointment this latest offering was. :bah:

Yup, i agree on this. Its as though special effects have replaced a decent plot line. Dont get me wrong, i am often extremely impressed by the effects, but i would rather have a thought-provoking story than tons of special effects (and this coming from a cg artist).

I also recently watched Splice. Again..some good effects, but ..yawningly predictable. I dont think im expecting too much (..??), i just want something that seems like its pitched towards a person with a relatively decent IQ. Then again, in the cinema, during Tron Legacy, i heard a few gasps at what seemed like blatantly obvious story "twists" to me. I recall being a bit taken aback that anyone would actually be surprised. So im wondering if the movie "idiocracy" is a horrible premonition of times to come...that the world is becoming more stupid...

(Dont mean that to sound like i think im more intelligent than others, but just appears that the world is accepting ..NAY..drinking up lack-luster simplified nonsense, rather than wanting to expand their minds a bit).

You watched Twilight??

:bah: Yes. Total utter mind-numbing rubbish. My ex thought it looked ok. Id never even heard of the series, let alone the movies, but saw the trailer (for the 3rd movie) and thought why not. I think i would have preferred to have sat in the cinema watching a blank screen for 2 hours. Took all my energy just to sit still and not slowly and repetitively start banging my head against the seat in front of me.

Any decent recommendations that actually have a good plot line?

I recently saw this... The Lovely Bones

Thought it was quite good & had some moments that had you on the edge of the seat along with some

cool graphics/effects & a pretty good plot line.

Mark Wahlberg who I like was not too good in this role though.

Dorian Gray Was not bad

The Blind Side was good

These are not new movies but I did only recently see them on DVD

Don't knock twilight, it as some decent eye candy in it although I was ruminating on fb the other week whether perving over Taylor Lautner was decent in a women of my age. I think it was decided that lookin was ok ;)

If you get a chance watch "Winters bone" about a young girl in a hicksville mountain community who has to hunt out her dad for bail jumping or her sick mum & young siblings will lose their land/house. it is quite dark & slow but v v good to see how the community close ranks around her.

Thinking over your thoughts and chewing the cud, the mind boggles....

Taylor Lautner is pretty hot but the whole Robert Pattinson thing just puts me off.

I read the book, lovely bones, haven't seen the movie as the book was excellent and they usually screw up the movies when that happens.
