The Census In Phuket 2010

Remember this, taking place in the latter part of 2010.

I didn't fill in the online form as there are a number of people at this address and the instructions were not exactly clear. I thought I'd wait for the visit. Of course, nobody has ever come.

Is this an anomaly? Have others on this forum, for example, had a visit from the census students? Or has it been a half-arsed waste of time producing a totally inaccurate figure?

Couple of young girls on a motorbike came around our soi, with a clipboard, saying they were from the OrBorTor. Late November, I reckon. They asked very simple occupancy questions, no names collected, but the word 'farang' was mentioned.

If this was it, then Rawai looks as if they did something.

No sign of anyone where I stay unless they came whilst we were out. In that situation one would think they would drop off a form in the letterbox with a telephone number to call so some one could pick it up later but this is far too sensible & even if this occurred to them their original instructions most likely did not include this.

The previous governor pushed to get more people registered in Phuket as the province was woefully underfunded based on the official population of around 350,000 when in reality it must be closer to one million. Just look at what is happening on our roads, really busy most of the day & crawling at certain spots during peak hours yet I have not seen any plans to address this issue other than a parallel road to the airport, which will not ease the congestion around Phuket Town, & an extension of the pink bus service. The busiest section of road in Phuket from Lotus to Central is cutting up badly with lots of potholes. What has this got to do with the census? Don't know really except I thought the intent was to prove a much larger population in Phuket so as to garner more funds from central government. However, I assume there is a law which states funds are allocated based on registered population so therein lies the rub.

That is my interpretation as well.

More people registered = more Government funding = more money for politicians!

That's why I am surprised the census has not been carried out more accurately.
