when I switch it on , it starts to boot up , but shuts off within a few seconds , monitor does not come on

Ive tried Two different internal HDD and the same problem

Ive changed the COSM internal mother board battery - still same problem

Ive changed the main on / off power button - still same problem

Ive fully checked all plug in connections including the RAM - still same problem

Ive fully checked over all the internal circuit boards and no apparent component failures showing

Ive cleaned the fan units and re seated the heat sinks - still same problem

Can you bring it up into a BIOS mode? Does it make any beeps - which f key to use should be in your manual, press it during startup. If so check the boot order and put it into verbose mode (it will show things happening) so when you do restart - it will post info and see where it stops at. Even if a lot of things are hosed you should be able to get into BIOS and that is a place to start.

Was it working fine and just won't restart the next time you used it? Can you remove the video card and try it with mother board VGA? re seat the ram if more then one try one only then the other.

Thanks for the advice its appreciated

I removed the video card and the computer then booted up with out shutting down, I then checked out the video card more closely and found a poor connection on the strip connector, after cleaning the connector , every thing seems to be back to normal

so many thanks for the advice it was spot on :)
