Dell to acquire security provider SecureWorks Inc.

2011-01-05 12:47:16 GMT+7 (ICT)

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS (BNO NEWS) -- Dell Inc. on Tuesday announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Atlanta, Georgia-based SecureWorks Inc. to boost the company's security.

SecureWorks is an IT information-security services provider, and it is expected to expand Dell’s global IT-as-a-Service offerings and information security expertise. With around 700 employees, SecureWorks projects Fiscal Year 2010 revenue of over $120 million.

In the last month, Dell has also acquired cloud-based archiver of medical data Insite One Inc., as well as the $960 million deal for Compellent Technologies Inc., a storage provider. The acquisition of SecureWorks is expected to close in the early stages of the year.

"The frequency and sophistication of attacks on technology infrastructure and malicious attempts to access data, requires reliable, capable and innovative information security," said Peter Altabef, President, Dell Services.

"SecureWorks is a recognized industry leader in information security services and its offerings and expertise will immediately enhance our solutions portfolio," Altabef added.

SecureWorks processes more than 13 billion security events and sees more than 30,000 malware specimens each day, Dell said, adding that the company has more than 1,500 banks and credit unions as managed security services clients and is protecting trillions of dollars in financial assets to underline the company's reliability.

Dell said it plans to maintain SecureWorks' current operations and continue to make investments in enhanced security offerings, but terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
