I have not changed my prescription for glasses in a long time and the shop that I buy them from has not changed the machine they use to check one's eyes for many years. Is there new technology for these tests and where is a good place to do it?

I had an eye check done with a machine here a few years ago and it was a failure, I think better to find someone who knows what they are doing rather than a semi skilled machine operator with a fancy machine

Try the shop about two or three doors east of the UN Irish pup.

I took the wife there and was quite satisfied. He speaks good English and explained things to us.

The machines the shops use generally test only the sight, i.e. whether you need glasses and of what strength. If you want a really thorough eye test, go to Sripat Clinic at Maharaj Hospital. This is the Government central testing centre for the whole of Northern Thailand, and has no end of machines... and of course fully qualified eye doctors. It is very crowded, but they do make appointments, and, in my experience, are pretty good at keeping them.

you mean this one : )

That looks like it. It was a quality looking operation to my way of thinking.

Funny you post this today. I just had mine checked yesterday at Lanna Hosp.

Very efficient and up to date equipment. Down to the poof in the eyes after diddling and dilating. Sometype of camera poofs your eyes and then all shows up big time on a computer screen.... This equip was not there last year. If I can ever see again , I will let you know my recommendation.

The not going by yourself if you are driving suggestion bears listening too..... I will next year. Takes a while for all the stars and exploding blurrs to clear up.

I have nothing but good to speak for Lanna Hosp..... been using them for years now

But is this test at Lanna Hospital (or any other hospital) what you need to get a pair of specs? Do they give you a prescription to take to the optician shop?

I went to Sripat I might as well have gone to see a witch doctor.

I had a 1:00 appointment. I got there at 12:40 and was told I had to wait until 2:30 While I waited I noticed people coming in with numbers below mine. About 1:30 I sent my Thai wife to ask why she didn't have a number. She returned and all of a sudden we had a 2:00 time slot.

They told me my eyes were in good shape. I need glasses to read and my vision gets blurry. According to them that isn't happening. :(

i would prefer a place that gives you a prescription to take to an optician shop as the place almost next to Art Cafe is honest and reasonably priced and I have found some of the others not to be in the past.
