A work colleague has overstayed on his multiple entry category O visa which he obtained in Hull, England in June. He arrived at Don Muang around 12 July and has just realised that the stamp in his passport is valid until 10 August. :D

He seems sure that the visa should have entitled him to 90 days, not 30 days. However, he didn't check at the time and is now pondering his next move. :o

If he goes to immigration tomorrow, how are they likely to resolve this? He feels that the error was made by them, rather than by him. Though, he is now aware that he should have checked the stamp more carefully on arrival. :D

If he really was in the UK when that visa was issued he should not have any problem at immigration.

He is correct that an entry using a non immigrant O visa should have been for 90 days. Believe immigration will change for him.

Yes, I have seen the stamp from the office in Hull. I think he should be ok. Just wondered if anyone had been through the same situation so I can put his mind at rest.

Thanks for that.

Agree with lopburi3, last time I was at immigration (a few months ago mind) there was a special desk specifically for fixing airport stamp problems.

Should be no problem at all.

Shouldn't have to pay for an airport <deleted> up. :o

The cost of inattention to detail can sometimes be costly... keeping in mind that 4K is not ALL that costly.

although I do agree that the airport immigration made the error... the friend made the error in not checking it. Live and learn that no one is infallible and it's in your own best interests to double check something as critical as exit dates. Then again, they might still correct the discrepancy without any cost. I hope so.

This also happened to a friend of mine. He was on one year multiple-entry visa, type O visa. He was ready to go back to USA to visit family a two weeks. He was leaving Thailand on his 89th day of visa.

At Bangkok airport, immigration looked at his passport and said that he overstayed for two months and must pay something like 12,000 baht for overstaying. He complained and said that he was on one year visa. Their response was sorry, you should have checked. Please pay 12,000 baht.

Moral of story: Check the accuracy of the type of visa you receive upon arrival into Thailand.

Agreed wrestler, always, always check your stamp.

Also, make sure you fill in the visa number slot on the arrival card, that will encourage the immi. chap to look for a visa.

Back to the OP, probably going to be ok if he fixes it now! Maybe have to pay the 200 per day overstay.

The rules require you to check your stamp. If you front Immigration while not in overstay, they'll alter it without a murmur.
