With my friends Glyn & Tamlyn being over, enjoying their time in Surin, I decided I would head down to Koh Chang with them for a few days, sort of being a shaparone.

We set off early last sunday Morning (5am) from Surin. We took this route :

MAP FROM SURIN TO KOH CHANG

After stopping off a couple of times along the way, We got to LAEM NGOP for around 12pm, Next ferry being at 1330.

Booked onto the ferry, the price was 50baht per person, RETURN and the Truck was for free.

I think the ferry across took approximately 45minutes.

Got off the ferry, and turned right, towards white sand beach. We searched around for a while, sat down and had some dinner, and ended up checking into some small monkey huts on the edge of the beach ( stoney, but picturesque )

They were 400 baht a night, nothing fancy, Small bed, cold shower, Fan & a TV, But right on the rocks, so fishing could be done.

We had 2 nights in these huts, and found some wonderful places for fishing. A great place we found, where I caught a 3/4kg Long tom ( Sea Garfish ) was, towards the fishing town of Ban Bang Bao, but just before this, you turn right, you head down a small dirty track, past a couple of nice resorts, then park up and head right. Once over the rocks, you come to paradise.

We ended up staying down here for our third night in Koh Chang, the place was OKAY. It was new, put together by thai builders, under new managment, and a lot of teething problems.

We woke up early Wednesday morning, and drove round to LONG BEACH, this is the most un spoilt place on the island. The road there was treturous, but good fun. Once we got there, we were welcomed by long sandy beaches, hippies and cheap food and drinks. I think it was 180baht for a hut on the beach there.

We had some good meals on the Island. Breakfast as Paddys Palms, was Okay, just a little expensive.

A Meal at Cookies on the beach at night was Nice.

Found a place, if you are coming out of white sand beach, towards the ferry, just before you go up the hill. On the left, a Thai restaurant, think that was the best value on white sands to be honest.

After Fishing all day on the Wednesday, we decided to get off the Island, and have a night in Chantaburi. Ended up staying at the KP Grand Hotel here. It was 1,100 baht a night, Good clean, Classic Hotel in the centre of town. We stayed on the 16th of 18 floors. Breakfast in the morning was good. So 4/5 rating from myself.

Okay guys, Hope you enjoy my small Story / Review.

Thanks

Danny

Looks like you had a great time. I have stayed in a similar place in Bangbao called cliff cottage resort. Google the place and i think it is like 300b / night for basic room. Views are amazing, and location to die for. Plenty of fishing and relaxing is all i want. Koh chang for me over anywhere else in Thailand for a few days away.
