Solay

Featured Replies

I asked some people what they were doing and they replied 'solay', or 'saw lay'. It might be Lao, and I guess that it might be the same as 'nin dta', can anyone confirm?

After racking my brains to figure out what you're referring to, I just can't think of what word it could be. :o Are you sure you heard correctly? Maybe you could explain a bit more about the context in which it was used.

but if it's a lao/isaan word I wouldn't know, sowwy :D

โสเหล่ (so-lay) meansวิพากษ์, วิจารณ์(to criticize, to judge, to comment on)

I was as baffled as Siamesekitty on that one. so is it a localised saying or mainstream thai?

Thanks for that K.Yoot.

Actually I did some checking and it is in fact a Lao woord meaning goossip or talk with friiends. โสเล , it sounds like.

For Central Thai language, you would hear someone said กำลังจับกลุ่มนั่งวิพากษ์วิจารณ์อะไรกันอยู่เหรอ (what are you talking(comment on) about?). They might be talking about gossiping someone, politics and whatever. :o
