After racking my brains to figure out what you're referring to, I just can't think of what word it could be. Are you sure you heard correctly? Maybe you could explain a bit more about the context in which it was used.

Actually I did some checking and it is in fact a Lao woord meaning goossip or talk with friiends. โสเล , it sounds like.

For Central Thai language, you would hear someone said กำลังจับกลุ่มนั่งวิพากษ์วิจารณ์อะไรกันอยู่เหรอ (what are you talking(comment on) about?). They might be talking about gossiping someone, politics and whatever.
