Why Obama Should Not Seek A Second Term

Why Obama should not seek a second term

Although US president Barack Obama is yet to formally declare his candidacy for the presidency in 2012, the announcement that White House press secretary, Robert Gibbs, will step down in February to concentrate on Obama’s re-election campaign confirms preparations are underway.

If Obama's final two years are marked by as many unnecessary gaffes as his first two, the American people may well make the decision for him if he doesn't make it voluntarily himself.

Barring outbreak of a major war at election time or a 9-11 type event I do not see him getting supported for a 2nd term.

The gaffes show he is human, a character trait often absent in presidents, but the legislative achievements show he has learned the art of compromise in a town famous for its inflexibility.

It is a pretty good article but I would take issue with this statement. There is no compromise in Washington and there hasn't been for some time. Instead what you have is an acceptance of one side's fiscally irresponsible proposals, if that side also agrees to accept the other side's fiscally irresponsible proposals. Both side just pulling cash out of the treasury for whichever corporate constituency brought them to power.

I am not certain who you think will not support him. The Democratic Party, all labor unions and most of the minority voters will fall in line for him. I hope you are talking about the independents, where he has lost much of his luster in the last two years.

I am convinced he will run and he will be the Democratic Party nominee in 2012. He is already getting his eggs in position in the Windy City and began his campaign finance efforts some time ago. His handlers are claiming he will need around $1 Billion to spend on his campaign fund this time around. Obama's campaign cost in 2008 was a measly $745 Million.

Who runs on the Republican ticket is the key to his reelection. Disagreeing with the author of the OP's article, I believe running Palin would be a huge mistake on the Republican's side. The main stream media has already crucified her and will relish the chance to do so again. The Republicans need to get somebody that the MSM will not vilify at every opportunity. There are still a few people that watch Charlie Gibson, Katie Couric and MSNBC and those viewers are easily swayed. Palin will merely be a distraction which will draw attention away from the poor job Obama has done during his first term.

I don't know who will show up for the Republicans but there are a few bright spots around. I particularly like the Junior Senator from Florida, Marco Rubio, for the VP slot. A Republican governor might come on strong in the next year, and governors have often made strong candidates. At least they are the more experienced of the political lot.

My two cents and probably worth what you just paid for it.

I understand what your saying & in a normal economy would agree. But my premise is based on what I think will be the worst two years still ahead.

By the time re-election comes up all will just want change (funny that considering his original platform) I am not saying it will be his fault either as none can save us from what lies ahead. I have always maintained we are in a controlled collapse & have seen no real signs of improvement just more of what brought us here to this point.

So.......At re-election as I said barring a major war involvement or another 9-11 *event* ( which could cause a knee jerk support for who ever is in power ) citizens will want change thinking that a new prez has that ability. They will again be wrong.

PS: I forgot to mention I agree with you on this & thought as much as soon as Rahm Israel Emanuel left the COS position to take up his run for Mayor there. In any other scenario it would seem odd.
