Thailand Postal Service Registered Mail To Another Country?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I have to mail a financial disclosure form to the United States. It is not due until June, so I have plenty of time and don't need to express mail it; however, I do want to register it. Does the Thailand Postal Service send registered mail to another country, or should I use DHL or another service? any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

EMS is expensive, you can send it by registered mail at a cost of 55 baht for the registering bit and then the cost of the letter [maybe 30-40 baht]

You can track the letter all the way to delivery using this service, at first it will show on thailandpost.com and then when it has been delivered will show on usps.com

For what you are sending i would recommend this service, delivery time around 2 weeks to the states, i send stuff to the states all the time and this is what i use.

I agree that EMS is expensive. I just sent a verification of address for pension to the US and it was 600 Baht. However, I've always used EMS as it has been completely reliable. Will take a look at registered mail though for less critical items now that I'm aware of it. Perhaps the only difference is in the amount of time to arrive?

Yes, you can apparently track registered mail to the USA, but you'll need a Thai translator to interpret the data from the Thailandpost website, or you can use Google translation.

I sent an envelope on February 10 from Jomtien to the USA -- According to the tracking data, it took 1 day to reach the airport in Bangkok and no further report since then-- now 6 days later -- here's the Google translation of the somewhat amusing tracking data:

Date / time unit descriptions.

Thursday, February 10, 2554.

15:01:04 pm Jomtien been signed.

Thursday, February 10, 2554.

15:37:37 pm Jomtien put the bag down.

Thursday, February 10, 2554.

15:37:43 am off Jomtien bag

Thursday, February 10, 2554.

21:05:37 pm Sp. Sriracha put the bag down.

Thursday, February 10, 2554.

21:06:06 pm Sp. Sriracha, close bag.

Friday, February 11, 2554.

09:41:48 pm Sp. Suvarnabhumi get bag

I guess I'd consider it comical if these weren't important documents that need to reach the Internal Revenue Service within two weeks . . .:o

There is a english option on the thailand post site

http://track.thailandpost.co.th/trackinternet/Default.aspx?lang=en

Or just click on the english option on the top right of the page on the track and trace page

Your mail would have left Bangkok already, the site only tracks it to the airport, once it has reached the states and clears customs it will appear on usps.com there is no tracking info between it arriving at Bangkok airport and arriving in the states, this is normal and how the thai and us postal services work.

Hope this helps.

"it will appear on usps.com"

Thanks! -- I tried the English option on the Thai site - came back with a "server error" and a bunch of gibberish -- possibly a temporary problem.

Also tried the USPS Tracking -- it appears to NOT be set up to track Thai tracking numbers:

USPS:

"Label/Receipt Number: RF067876148TH

There is no record of this item."

Hi the tracking info will only appear on the usps site once it has arrived in the states so keep checking the site.

Looks like it is same for Australia. I have a letter that left BKK Sunday but has not yet appeared on the OZ website. (No event message.)

I hope you're right, but it's difficult to imagine why it takes 5 days to get from Bangkok to the USA by air, unless they handed it off to the Pony Express . . .

5 days? Unless you have sent it by EMS there is no way it will get there in 5 days.

As i said earlier registered airmail takes about 2 weeks to the states.

You may be lucky and it arrives in a week, you may be unlucky and it takes 3 weeks to arrive.

If you need something to arrive within a week you need to use EMS.

"KENALDER"

Registered aimail is not tracked to every country in the world [for instance it is not trackable to the UK]

I am not sure if it is trackable to OZ you would need to check that.

Well, darrendsd, you were right that the mail would eventually show up in the USPS tracking system -- But, it's not good news -- here's the search result:

Label/Receipt Number:

Service(s): Registered Mail™

Status: Missent

Your item was misrouted. The error has been corrected and every effort is being made to deliver it as soon as possible.

Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day.

Please check again later.

Detailed Results: Missent, February 16, 2011, 12:03 pm

Arrival at Unit, February 16, 2011, 9:00 am, NORTH FORK, CA 93643.

I sent a registered, airmail letter to Europe and it took 3 weeks.

Not to be recommended, and not trackable too.

Very good service with DHL. Only slightly more expensive than EMS and perfect tracking.

Update for Australia postal tracking from Thailand. As of today Friday the 25th there is still no events posted. However in calling the recipient, they have already issued a new document and sent it back this way as of Wednesday the 23rd. I guess it is not a reliable system, at least in Aust.

My birth certificate arrived yesterday. Outgoing mail date was Feb. 11, return date Mar. 3, so almost 3 weeks round trip including processing time in Melbourne.

Using registered mail in Thailand to overseas is hit & miss dependent on the postal service at the receiving end. Personally I will NEVER again use the service to UK. Last year I sent a letter only to have it turn up on my doorstep in Thailand 6 months later as "not picked up". The UK postal service simply drops a card off to ask the receiver to come and pick it up instead of actually delivering the letter themselves at times. Courier from now on for me.

Hello,

I have problem to track REGISTERED MAILS to US and it almost never works.

Thai post explained that they do not track the parcels when they arrive in US and I tend to believe them because the parcels can be tracked until they leave the country (Thailand).

Do you have any explanation or experience with Registered mail to US ? (I am not speaking about EMS that perfectly works).

Thank you for your help.

Vibrators very often get stopped in the mail when the batteries are in them and they are accidently knocked 'on' in transit.
