The Melodies That Won'T Go Away

Featured Replies

recently I posted about waking up at 0230hrs with Eurythmics Thorn in my side and the need to drink alcoholic beverages and now recently Kokomo by the Beach Boys has been following me around...we all get caught up with a jingle or a melody that won't go away for a day or two; maybe something that was heard on the telly or some obnoxious asrshole's mobile ring tone (a jingle from an ice cream truck in Bell Gardens near LA alternately fascinated and horrified me for a month once 30 years ago, then there was the jingle on a carousel at the Brighton sea front many years later)...it can disturb sleep and lead to disastrous consequences...or become a lullaby and precursor to romance depending on conditions...

so...'fess up; what was the last tune that 'got stuck' and when?...was it pleasant? how many times did you haveta listen to it on you tube before it went away, or did you want it to?

'aruba, jamaica, oh I wanna take ya,

key largo, bahama, come on pretty mama...'

(the youtube video has got a dark haired siren in a bikini gyrating to the music...not helpful...)

:(

Gets me every time. Sniff sniff.

how often?...recently?...did the riff disturb yer sleep?

did yer new bath robe from the kitty litter poeple contribute to the disturbance?

i have been driving myself crazy for weeks now trying to remember this bands name and the title of this song, then something just clicked.

takes me back to the days when i used to spend a lot of time along the shores of Dahab in Sinai.

ever wondered about the one that got away? sad.gif

god she was beautiful ! an israelie national of mixed Romanian / Argentinian descent. wub.gif

get outta here...the irritating little squibs originate from the banal, not from an exotic argentine/romainian/jew impossible scenario...

review yer selection accordingly...I would like to have a lover in tight pink slacks as would we all...problems with verisimilitude, zeitgeist and etc inevitably result...<_<

the Chopin Nocturnes were like a condom that I removed after engineering school mid-terms...I'd finish my review, then enter the examination hall as a warrior in to battle with the soothing sound of the nocturnes, fragile and deadly...

later after the exams with the cat, a sixpack of tall buds and a bottle of JD the soothing tones would remain with me...to be revived with the next round of torture 3 months later...

Brooke Fraser would NOT leave my head last week to the point that it disturbed my sleep....and I don't even think it's that's great a song.

Having said I don't particularly like that song, I do like this one of hers and it can get repeated in my head at times....it's got that beat.

The simple repetitions in "I'm Ready" by Bryan Adams, have been stuck with me for months. Simple and beautiful.

Luong the cleaning girl came in to clean my flat and per usual on a Sunday morning I'm in bed...'hello Mr tutsi!' she chirped and then proceeded to bustle about...I laid in bed thinkin' and then emerged in an effort to reproduce the Beach Boy's complex vocal harmony by meself:

'aruba, jamaica...' etc...oh please gyrate like the girl in the you tube video...

she appraised me warily and then left after cleaning the bathroom...didn't bother with the washin' up...

an' I gave her a bathrobe an' all...:(

I quite like theoretical queries...

please allow 'yo mama's' details to be revealed and I shall have a negro associate reply without delay...

most horrible tune when on my newspaper route in 1960 was 'Duke of Earl'...'nothin' can stop me now 'cause ah's de duke of earl!...'

I say: 'sheddd, you just some blood hangnin' around de liquor store...'

of course, role models were a dime per dozen them days...

I have had the quite annoying and brain deading Ricky Martin song La Vida Loca going around and around in my brain cell for three days now.

I tried to kill it off with watching ACDC on u toob, but to no avail. Woke up this morning, and there he was "dancing la vida Loca"...... Perhaps I was having nice dreams of sitting on a beach?

I won't post a video of it - I wouldn't want to inflict it on anyone else. Or maybe I should - may chase the demons from me to you...

Ah well, as i sit in my lovely fluffy bathrobe..

I even got the lyrics wrong!!!

Meadish, have you seen the Muppets version on the Muppets thread??

You don't know what pain is until you get Slim Whitman doing "Indian Love Call" stuck in your head. I think it gave me hysterical tinitis.

I always thought that the dancing in the video was entertaining but yeah, the chorus to the song is a bit annoying...

what about 'Wake me up before ye go go',...truly ain't got nothing to redeem itself and manages to get stuck somewhere when yer hung over and tryin' to get to work in the morning...George Michael went on to better things, fortunately...

some unimaginative feature journalists describe these jingles as 'infectious'...

truly viral, I'd say...:bah:

Gotcha, sleep well. I know i will cos Ricky has been replaced by Wham. Who's next - frigging Robbie and his ANGELS?
