I am moving from Phuket to Bangkok and am trying to determine the best way. I've lived all over and mostly have done the move myself, but I don't have a Thai drivers license. So here's the questions; If I did the midnight run, to avoid those pesky checkpoints, would I? If I did get stopped other than a few baht, would my possessions and I be safe? Are there any other dangers or problems to consider? I mean other than those visa run boys making life safe for everyone....

I am guessing doing a midnight run in BKK, may be the the worst possible thing to do, especially at the toll booths...as there is less traffic on the road the local plods may be more inclined to pay attention to you coming through the toll booth.

In 10 years the only legitimate driving fine I every got, where the BiB wouldnt accept the bung was around midnight coming through a toll booth...."driving with red plates"

Why dont you get a Thai DL, not exactly rocket science to get one...:whistling:

Thanks for the response! Being relatively new I did not know there would be toll booths, and it makes sense that a bored clod is probably trying to make his night more interesting, at someone else's expense. As for the DL, the timing is not right for the test, I'll get it in Bkk. How could the test be rocket science, this is Thailand.

I think I am going to rent the truck, hire the driver, make an offer to Buddha and hope like hell that I survive.
