This picture reminds me of a time in San Francisco when I was looking at a street map. I wanted the shortest distance to a certain part of town and the map showed a nice, winding little road that went within a quarter mile of the restaurant we wanted to go to. So, off we went up this hill in the city. The road ended at a fence at the very top of the hill in a residential area. There, 50 feet below the fence, the road continued on to our destination. I could even see it from the top of the hill, but I had to drive a further 5 miles to get to there be retracing our route and going in a big circle in a labyrinth of roads.

Not a photoshop, but a real occasion.

I was once driving back to Bangkok, first time I had taken that particular route but it was well sign posted. Still not entirely sure where I was going, I drove slower than usual.

I followed a sign that took me up a ramp that would have taken me onto a flyover. Driving slowly along until I could see where the flyover started on the other side......... There was a huge gape where the road wasn't finished.

Had I been going faster, I'd have dropped 20 feet or so onto the busy motorway below. The only signposts around told me to take that route, not a single one to tell me that the route lead to certain death.

That WOULD have been a scary experience. Thank gawd you were not driving at night. Sometimes you are the windshield and sometimes the fly.
