Thinking of taking my boyfriend (Thai) to northern India and Nepal in December. The general idea I got was that though he has to get his India visa in advance (like I do), there is no problem with taking Thais to either country, it's easy to get visa. Is this correct? Anything else I should know?

Another question I have is that my boyfriend seems to think if we book a tour to somewhere like Japan, it is easy for him to get a visa, and we don't really have to stick to the tour, whereas if we went on our own there is no hope of a visa (same as UK and US). He insists a tour company can get him a visa.... Is this true?

Great thread about India here.

Somewhere in it, maybe 3-4 th page someone gives some info on taking Thais to India.

Sorry if not much help, I understand this post isn't up to Lopburi3's standards but it might start you off.

Great country, you'll either love it or hate it depending on your attitude! :o

thanks for the link, it was helpful. i only have about 2-3 weeks free in december, and am wondering if anyone can recommend the best part of india to see then? i really wanted to go to manali and ladakh, but was dissuaded by another board as it is too cold/inaccessible at that time. i have already been to bombay, goa, and gokarna. didn't much like them and want to try somewhere new. tips?

I have just come back from Nepal and flew from Bangkok, there were loads of Thai's on the plane so there must be a way to do it - seek advice at the Nepal embassy - i think its on Sukhumvit 71.

Hope it helps. If you need more info on Nepal PM me

How about Madras, Chennai, Kerala? I haven't been there but expect they are worth a visit. Why don't you ask in that Indian thread, you might get a better response about this 'wehere to go' question. I can imagine the mountains will be cold at that time, I was up Nepal around that time and it was freezing at night.

I'm dead jealous of your trip! :o

It's very easy for Thais to get a visa to India and Nepal. I only brought my passport, photos and application forms. The only problem I had was the queue was so freaking long at India Embassy.

In India, you might wanna get to Amritsar and see the Golden Temple. I had a great time there. I also liked this little town called Sardhana, about 3 hours away from New Delhi, a remarkable church they have there. Noted that I'm a church freak though so you may not be impressed with it like I was.

does anyone know about the tours? ie. if we take an organized tour somewhere like japan or germany, can they help him get his visa easier? would we have to stay with the tour group?

Don't take a tour, go by yourselves, it's the best way.
thanks... has anyone been to india or nepal in december?

Yes, both of them.

Nepal was bloody freezing, which was made worse as we didn't have any hot water in the hotel. We arrived in kattmandhu on xmas day. There were lots of US tourists there and the prices were sky high.

India was great at that time of year.

I suggest you go to Delhi, and take in Agra(Taj Mahal) and forget about jaipur, too many touts and tourists.

Rajasthan to me is the real India.

As BKKMadness said, sheck out that India thread.
