I shall start.

I have been reading numerous web sites over the years.

And i find that most men, who live in south east asia, have a thing against Western women.

Now, my question is?

How did you manage to live your life with your Western wife for all those years which were so hard, and all of a sudden find out that they were the wives from hell?

Most of you call us feminazis and we have large thighs.

Is it a throw back to your younger years? Or are you really scared to be able to talk without stammering?

I want to know what you have against Western women??

OMG..........

Seems Patsy has been rejected by summun.

Why the sudden outburst of |Poor me"?

I don't think of you as a feminazi, and I know you don't have fat thighs......and if you did have fat thighs, I would still jump your bones every night.

Other than that, I will make no comment to the OP. :whistling:

On my computer it says that you posted this at 07.27 Patsy.

That's about 11.30 at night in Swaziissland, so maybe there's a slight touch of red wine blues in there.

However, you'll not have read generalisations like that from me (unless it's after midnight) and although I could write a long, long story about how good it was to find my first wife had divorced me (she's Spanish), I very much miss my second wife (who is Polish). So that's a balance.

My third wife (divorced) is Thai and a real pain, my current wife is filipina and a really nice lady.

So it is again a balance.

The only thing unbalanced in all this is me - why all these divorces? It cannot all be that I move from country to country every few years with new projects to build, it must also be some sort of restlessness in me, I suppose.

(Plus - I might not be a very nice bloke, either)

patsy read the comments from one saddo in ladies. Good thing she didn't see the deleted crap he posted.

Personally, I have never had a man be rude to my face in Thailand and find that TV has a few keyboard warriors who don't have the balls to say to my face what they think they can say on the forums. Saddos who are not worthy of my energy except to press the delete button. And perhaps the suspension button too.

That said, many more of the men on this forum are lovely men with good manners and, those I have met in person, have never been anything but gracious, friendly and kind. :)

If the men you have met in person are so nice, ......how do you know that some TV'ers don't have the balls to say to your face what they write on the forums?

I imagine you are correct, since such is life that there indeed are such saddos..... but you seem so certain..

Well, if after 22 years in Thailand and I can say I have NEVER met a man who has been rude to me, I can guess thats a pretty good reason to feel certain.

But perhaps you think thats not enough experience? Maybe I should wait until I've been here 44 years and make the same statement?

Don't care where they come from...........Luv em all.

Aw gee, when I saw this topic I thought it was going to be the video of Doris Day in Calamity Jane.

Or that funny fat lass from Cornwall................

There does seem to be an undercurrent of misogyny running through quite a few posts on TVF. Western and Thai women are equal targets. Over the years having encountered a number of these hard done by individuals it's quite often a case of six of one and half a dozen of the other. I reckon a lot of these blokes need to invest in a mirror and take a long, hard look. Doubt it would do any good though.

I have never been rejected - more me doing the rejecting!!! With great gusto...

As sbk says - that guy that said that women should not be seen in bars etc. really got to me.

But, back on topic, a lot of you men have been married for a long time to western women and the way you describe those years of your lives are a living hell.

And now, you have your second or third chance with a wee Thai lady and all of a sudden the woman who you married all those years and kids ago is a bitch.

So why did you marry and make a life with her in the first place.

Signed

Thunderthighs!!

Yes, it was late at night or early in the morning. In Vino Veritas.

Interesting response there you give Patsy.

Specially your last sentence.

I can understand to disagree with someone that goes against your believes, but rejecting a person about her/his view on life in general when it collides with your point of view is just a sign of being narrow minded. (No pun intended).

There are 6 Billion people on this planet, how you can ever find the right one for you?

It is all about experiences and growing up.

Finding a person you can get along with.

Or that funny fat lass from Cornwall................

With the fat thighs?

Do you mean The Vicar of Dibley? She could never be bitchy, she's lovely.

maybe those that dislike us so much actually don't like the reminder we present of how they aren't really the 'hansum man' or gods gift to women that being in thailand seems to make a fair few think they are. the problem with us (western women) is that we know what, how & who they are back in their own world.

To a frail ego, being boosted by the attentions of the thai lovelies, must just be too much to handle?

That said, apart from the women hating nonsense that gets spouted on thaivisa, I haven't had any negative experiences in person with a western man in Thailand either. So either they just do it online cause they are frustrated but too spineless to do it in person or else they are such a small minority that me & most women never come across them? I like to think it's the latter but I'll never be sure.

Just to clarify though, people have the right to think what ever they want so if some don't like women (western or any kind) then that's their call but keep the hate spouting to yourself or amongst friends, I have a right to not be bothered by someone else's hate. I feel the same about racists & bigots. Think what you like but out in the world, keep your views personal & learn to play nicely with others.

That's the one Harky.......Lovely

It comes with the territory, you hang out in the lion house you get lions, you hang out in expat forums you get misogynists.

ThaiVisa is pretty good actually, there are forums that have slagging of western women and ex-wives down to a fine art.

The reason why young men marry badly is quite easily explained... sex.

A lad of 20 is far less discriminating than a man twice or even three times his age.

Later when things go bad he blames the woman because the sexual attraction has diminished.

Then, with his ego in tatters, he meets a woman from a culture that dictates that she must carry out a pretence of being an inferior being to him he considers this to be the way things were really meant to be.

This has been happening for a while.

Antony and Cleopatra, act 2, scene 6:

"The beds i' the east are soft; and thanks to you,

That call'd me timelier than my purpose hither;

For I have gain'd by 't."

I see two different issues. One is represented by Rudyard Kipling and he definitely had yellow fever and fell in love with the stereotype of the Thai/Burmese woman as opposed to the English woman. Kipling represents the whole British military macho guy thing in a Burma world. A lot of Americans fell into this same belief system when they were young and faced with death daily and their only solace was Asian women. Back home the girlfriends/wives were sending Dear John letters while the Thai ladies on R&R were being sweet.

Rudyard Kipling 1892

There's a Burma girl a-settin', and I know she thinks o' me;

Ship me somewhere's east of Suez, where the best is like the worst,

Where there aren't no Ten Commandments an' a man can raise a thirst;

For the wind is in the palm-trees, and the Temple-bells they say:

"Come you back, you British soldier; come you back to Mandalay!"

Er petticoat was yaller an' 'er little cap was green,

An' 'er name was Supi-yaw-lat

When the mist was on the rice-fields an' the sun was droppin' slow,

She'd git 'er little banjo and she'd sing "Kulla-lo-lo!"

With 'er arm upon my shoulder an' 'er cheek agin my cheek

We useter watch the steamers an' the hathis pilin' teak.

An' I'm learnin' 'ere in London what the ten-year soldier tells:

"If you've 'eard the East a-callin', you won't never 'eed naught else."

I am sick o' wastin' leather on these gritty pavin'-stones,

An' the blasted English drizzle wakes the fever in my bones;

Tho' I walks with fifty 'ousemaids outer Chelsea to the Strand,

An' they talks a lot o' lovin', but what do they understand?

Beefy face an' grubby 'and ---

            Law! Wot do they understand?

I've a neater, sweeter maiden in a cleaner, greener land!

            On the road to Mandalay,

I had a nemesis named George, a draft dodging rich kid who went to Hong Kong to have a yacht custom designed and sail around Asia including Thailand while I was flying around getting shot at. He even docked his boat at Sattahip for a while just to rub my nose in it. Being young and at war is an all consuming experience. One of the most heterosexual men I have ever met fell in love with a lady boy and took her home to Montana in 1968. He was a real cowboy, ranch and everything.

I read Kipling as a young man and had no trouble understanding exactly what he meant.

The second issue is a generational thing. Men who were brought up by mothers who were adult women and married before WW II are not the same as men who were brought up by mothers raised after WW II. Before mom stayed home and raised the kids and kept house and called her husband Mister.

My 40 year old Thai GF has more in common with my mother in terms of values than my 40 year old daughters do with their grandmother. It has nothing to do with Yellow fever it has to do with values that changed in the West and will change in Thailand too but not yet. I think this value system not only has appeal to Western men but Western women also. I think that Boo and SBK would admit to liking some of the old fashioned values found in some Thai men. Of course I could be wrong about that.

Western women fare poorly against Asian in James Clavell's enormously popular books as well.

The western men in Taipan, Shogun and Noble House almost with out exception find the beds of the east a lot softer, while occidental lasses often pursue them in vain.

I knew a misogynist once. It was his card tricks that were the most impressive.

Reading The Road To Mandalay reminded me of Clavell too ( a line from King Rat escapes me, of one fellow who married an Asian...), however, I think Kipling was making another statement that Marky missed when he said, "I read Kipling as a young man and had no trouble understanding exactly what he meant. ...": It was a lower class Englishman dreaming and pining for the Eastern woman. Kipling did not normally write with cockney accent.

Not sure what he wrote with, but he makes dam_n fine mince pies.

No, I didn't miss it. It was the lower classes that were used as cannon fodder. In Vietnam the General officers got the round eyes. The lower classes, lower ranks got the Asian ladies.

The upper ranks caught STD's from toilet seats. The flight surgeon would write it in the medical reports. The lower ranks got them from prostitutes.

The English class distinctions in the officer ranks transferred easily to the Americans.

That is another thing I don't think translates easily for a Western woman to understand.

I'm sitting in the mud. Everything is red mud. My machine gun is full of red mud. The General drives by in his jeep with an American nurse in a white uniform. Betrayal everywhere.

Dear John letters, nurses flying to the beach on weekends to frolic in the sun with field grade officers. It wasn't the nurses fault. The ladies back home who wrote the Dear John letters I am sure also had good reasons for writing them. But they got the blame. The women who worked in the factories in WW II did a heck of a good job but it changed them. It changed the world. When I was a kid in Canada the women didn't drink in the same bars as the men. Life was different.

Thailand escaped most of these changes. I don't think the women I met in Thailand in 1968 were much different than the women in Thailand in 1868. A few changes but certainly not the radical changes experienced by Western women. It doesn't make them bad but it does make them different. Thailand has changed less in the past 100 years than the West.

Thailand was shielded from the changes that took place in the rest of SE Asia during WWII, because it 'cooperated' fully with Japan and suffered far less than other countries in the region.

The Japanese were probably far less interested in the 'monkeys' of Thailand - their description - than the US/Australian troops in Vietnam.

There is only one documented case of a Japanese soldier marrying a Thai woman as far as I know during WWII.

Nor did the Japanese use Thai women as “comfort women” as they did the Koreans and Chinese women.

The reverse however is not true as a lot of Japanese women married American men after the WW II occupation.

Perhaps someone could explain this to me.

There are certainly plenty of half Japanese aged between 65 and 70 in the North of Thailand. There are two in our village alone... both retired successful businessmen, go figure... so I hardly thing their mothers caught them off the toilet seat.

The Americans in occupied Japan came from a culture of marriage, where if you wanted a girl you married her. Love was big on the agenda as well.

The Japanese of 1940 accepted mistresses and concubines as a normal part of society, even among the lower classes marriages were normally arranged by parents. Marriage without parental consent would have been unthinkable.
