You can't go wrong with Terdsak for a boy, failing that Somchai!!!

...or Wachaporn for a girl (วัชภรณ์) .

Way back when my husband and I first got married and thought we might have children someday I set some ground rules for kids names. No Porns no Chits, no Suks. :o The kid has to be able to live in both of the parents countries, and lets face it, a name like Pornsuk will ruin their life in the west for sure!!!

Our daughter will be called

Skye

( when she decides to come into this world, late already but then being 1/2 Thai I expected that, Thais are always late :o:D )

Whatever you do, don’t call it Samran if it’s a boy. It’s an old fashioned Thai name (a bit like Ethel or Bartholomew in English) and people laugh when I tell them that’s my official Thai name.

Thats enough, its too long really already.

Unless you're trying to get in Guinness Book of Records.

Peechit? Pee - shit ?? Get it??? :o (Justing letting my kid-in-a-classroom-instincts run freely...)

I got 2 kids, the girl, years is called Katie, and the boy 8 months is called Henry, no Thai names, no Thai nik names. Executive desicions were made.

Just as a suggestion, make sure the name can be easily pronounced by Thai people, so names with "th" "v" 'f' etc should be avoided.

Try to get your wife to say Favio correctly.

That's a very good point to take on boardif you plan to take your child back to Farang land.

Our daughter's name is Apassara, but we call her Ami. She was born on a Thursday!

We are expecting a boy in a few weeks. :D

Like our daughter, the Thai name for our son will be chosen based on rigorous research (by my wife) as it is important to have an auspicious name [ based on combinations of letters] that matches the day of birth.

Hence, we have chosen 8 potential boy names, each one selected as "lucky" for each day of the week, but there are 2 names for Wednesday (AM and PM)

All the bookstores have these baby name research guides for finding "lucky" names and also discovering "unlucky" names that must be avoided completely.

btw, it is not unheard of for mothers to induce labour to ensure that the birthday will be the most auspicious! :o

For girls:

Orada  อรดา

Jitrada  จิตรดา

Peerada  พีรดา

I mentioned these names before, but I don't have any idea what they mean. while we're on the topic could someone enlighten me please? Thanks

My daughter's name is Ariya.

My wife likes this one too.

My wife is pregnant again. Last time I was able to convince her to use a Thai name for our daughter, but this time she is insisting on using a Western name. She says this is because we are living in America. It's a shame because I really like Thai names for women. I don't usually like Thai names for boys. Our first born is named Justin. His middle name of Sapone (Thai). My wife has decided if we have a girl, her name will be Erica. We both like the name Ryan if it is a boy.

I have to admit that I like the name Kanika.

Good luck and enjoy your new addition when it arrives! :o

It's not that important in my opinion as it is superstitious nonsense. My daughter's middle name is Jinipa, because it was an auspicious one for the day(valentines day), and also sounds a bit like my name.

If living in Thailand the first name is never used if it is a Thai one, always the nickname. If the kid goes to the west, the Thai name will sound silly.

I went for the Western first name and Thai middle one.

Good luck and enjoy the whole adventure!

My Mrs is called Sukreem (which i like) don't know how you write it in Thai. an ex was called Pacharaporn which i liked also :o

how bout "jhan' (moon, like duan), in english it sounds a bit like john, so u get both uses: i went thru the same thing with israeli names, they had to be pronouncable by both sets of grnadparents, and not sound wierd or in a way that kids will make fun of
