Wndows Explorer 9

Featured Replies

Not long ago I downloaded and installed the new exlporer V 9.0

All together a better surfing experience. This without switching off Add-ons, I guess if you were to disable some unimportant add-ons then the experience would even be better.

Sure, its a much better experience than IE 6/7/8.

But if you want an even faster browser which is secure, stable and easier to use then get google chrome.

You will also instantly see where MS copied the design of IE9 from.

I tried it a few hours yesterday - had to spend more time downloading additions to make it work than actual browsing. Never did get spell check working (this is the 64 bit version of IE9). Attempt to check bank site got no response other than must be a new computer and no acceptance to confirmation pins they had sent me.

Chrome is my browser of choice, but using IE9 for the time being just to see what all the 'hype' is about.

So far so good though.

As someone getting on in years I guess I am conservative in that I do not altogether welcome change. I installed IE9 and my first impressions were that several changes had been made not to improve the functionality of the product but just to make it look different. First I noticed that favourites had been moved to the RHS of the screen. Then I started a download and was waiting for the usual bar at the top to indicate the file was ready for download only to notice several minutes later that this has now been moved to the bottom of the screen. I could list several more changes but this version of IE9 has made me look more seriously at the alternatives. I recently upgraded Outlook 2003 to 2010 and I am thinking of returning to the original there for much the same reason.

I didn't even get passed the install. I was using latest Firefox4 at time and IE9 install asked me to turn it off, along with several other programs I had running. Who's in charge here? Sticking with Chrome and FF4.

surfing is a bit faster !

download manager is brilliant !

drag the tag into another monitor / another window, very handy !

huge backward button, but refresh button getting smaller !

some clumsy stuffs in IE 8 are gone :-)

highly recommend !!

Do not attempt to use the 64 bit version (as I found out the hard way) - does not work with most apps. Install puts both 32 and 64 versions on 64 bit system so remove links to the 64 bit. Microsoft is reportedly not addressing the issues.

I have only very minor problems with it. Mostly related to 64bit browsers not being supported yet. Not enough problems for me to use another browser. If I need a site that it doesn't work on (i.e., a site with a Silverlight app) I just open another browser.

Look at the alternatives and you will see exactly who and what IE9 has been copying!

Is that IE9/chrome/firefox 4/safari you are talking about?

Having tried all the major releases (IE9, Chrome 10, Firefox 4), I've been most impressed with FF4 -- to the point where I'm seriously considering switching back from Chrome.

What are the issues with the 64-bit version? Is it incompatibility with plug-ins and add-ons?

Yes. And no apparent desire to fix. It appears Microsoft has just taken a let dead dogs lie and can only suggest you use 32 bit. It can't even run there own Active X 32 bit controls (which are required at many sites). Even there Bing browser search will not work. Total mess. And I got sucked into thinking it was going to be better as marked 64 bit!

The only problem I find is with Silverlight. I do not have problems with much else. I run both IE 9 32 bit on Windows 7 64 bit and Vista Home 32 bit. I run IE9 64 bit on Windows 7 64 bit.

I have been playing with the new FireFox 4 for a couple days and it has not shown any improvement for me over IE9. One problem I had with FF4 is that when increasing page size it did not render the pages correctly. It isn't real far off, but some objects appear behind other objects.

That is just my experience. Many people have had good experiences with FF4 according to their comments. IE9 works for me for now.
