90 Day Border Run To Myanmar

Featured Replies

I am thinking of doing a 90 day border run from Hua Hin to the Andaman Club in Myanmar, and was wanting to know if its better to drive ones self or go with an organised trip several have been advertised recently.

Also if I drive myself how much is the visa cost to get in to Myanmar and roughly how long does the drive take.... at a steady easy pace!

Thanks

As above. It is though a very nice drive especially when you head over the mountains to the other side of Thailand. I used to do it on a Honda wave from HH when I first got here. The beauty of driving yourself is you can stop when you want to and take as much time to get there and back as you want unlike the minibus services that race down there and back in the one day.

Frightening

Thanks for the info, I guess the drive yourself option does seem a bit more relaxed, have you got details of where you pick up the ferry to go accross to the resort etc?

A company in HH has just put a flyer in our letter box offering a day trip to do the visa extension for 2,100 baht which includes the visa.... seems pretty good if you can stomach the mini van drive!!!

The organised trip won't be to the Andaman Club (I wouldn't think). It'll more likely be the crossing from Ranong town into Myanmar? I've never done the latter but it sounds like a hell of a lot of hassle. If you're driving yourself, Andaman wins hands down for a few extra bucks. It's also this side of Ranong town by about 5km.

Last time I did the Andaman, it was 800 baht for both visa and return boat trip. Went through immigration on the island and turned straight back and got on the same boat back to Thailand. Casino/hotel option is there for those who fancy it.

I went by taxi, leaving HH at 8am and was back just after 5pm. Probably less than 2 hours in there for the visa stuff and a bite to eat before the return trip. The driver didn't spare the horses!

Takes 4-5 hours depending on the traffic after you turn right at Chumpon....Visa/Boat is 800Baht and if you have Thai partner she can go for 30 Baht...why not stay the night at the Andaman..1,900 or special 2,500 for 2 nights includes a fantastic buffet breakfast and they have a duty free shop, swimming pool, sauna/gym at the hotel..it is a bit of a slog doing it in one day .

Intresting Thread.

Are both the Landing Stages for the Andaman and the place in Ranong town well signposted and is there secure parking if I decide to stay overnight in Burma ?

Andaman has secured parking. In town none. Overnight in Burma from town pier isnt much to brag about

Cant recall any signs, but the pier in Ranong town is close to Thai Immigration

Andaman trip, Thai Immigration is done at pier terminal

Cheers for the info, The Andaman looks like the better bet.

Just where is the Andaman pier terminal, or is it obvious to anyone driving down.

Looking at that trip to Andaman, I'd still rather drive to Poipet. Near enough the same distance and the roads are good too. With the added bonus of the huge market full of bargains. The downside may be the rip off visa cost in Cambodia. The authorities in Myanmar do seem a lot friendlier though.

Interesting topic though and definitley an alternative to Poipet.

Poipet and Ranong the same distance from HH...........maybe you should invest in a new map?

I calculated from Cha Am, actually.

Driving directions to Cha-am, Phetchaburi

  1. 1. 6 hours 15 mins Route 4 409 km

Driving directions to Poipet

Suggested routes

1. 5 hours 56 mins Route 35 419 km
