Talking To Animals

I love my cat and he loves me in his way.

I have no doubt that he does, Patsy. Cats intuitively know who the suckers are. :D

As big an egoist as babies, but far more calculating. +1

I think that after a while cats become just as attached to humans. When my cat Lizzie was ill and dying and I was in the US, I talked to her on the phone. My husband freaked out when she disappeared (she could barely walk) shortly after that. She turned up a few hours later, we both think she had heard my voice and was out looking for me. Sadly, I didn't make it back before she died. :(

That is the one sad thing about owning pets. Eventually they die long before we are ready to let them go. I feel so sorry for the baby elephant I showed a picture of. All day long it is chained up to a steel ring in the ground and left without human attention until the Thai owner takes it into the city at night to beg for bananas and earn a living for its owner. I bring bananas and sugar cane to it during the morning when nobody is around and we've sort of built up a friendship. I talk to him in baby talk and give him a scratch and a pat. He trumpets to me when I go to see him, and gives me love pats with the gooey tip of his trunk. I get the over-ripe bananas from a dealer who can't sell them once they turn dark.

I talk to this guy all the time, but it can get a little hectic when he wants to continue "talking". Boogs is one half arctic wolf and one half Siberian Husky. He weighs in at a healthy 150 pounds of muscle. Last year at the age of 10 months he fathered 10 beautiful puppies.

I talk with every living creature.

Like......

"Sorry mate"....... to a buzzing fly as I swat it.

"I know ya just trying to live in this world, but not in my house", .......to a captured mouse as I chuck it over the fence into nextdoors yard.

...... and so on.

Reckon most of us do this without realising.

Cats, dogs, all creatures would talk back if they could, most show their feelings of love and respect, even fear sadly for some.

Many of us show very little response in return, so sad.

My breeding pair of dogs, lived to ripe old age.

The bitch was 15 vears and the dog 17 years, miniture poodles.

555 Pete - glad I'm not your neighbour...

I thought the same thing. :D But then I live trap the mice in my house and release them up the hill on the other side of the road, opposite my sister-in-laws house. I do go in to the coconut plantations a bit. Honest :whistling:

If Boogs ever clamped down, rather than just knawing on me, I would agree with you. He can go through a huge, moose hip bone in a matter of minutes and turn it into chips. It's the wolf in him that gives the jaw power. Wolves have over twice the jaw power of most dogs their size. When he was a puppy with sharp teeth it really HURT when he lovingly chewed on me.

That is his "mate", Asuilu, and Boogs growing up...

They are both beautiful dogs. These were their pups last year and they all went to great homes.

She had 10 puppies? Thats a big litter, even for a big dog! Hope they don't plan on breeding her too much, its not very healthy for dogs to have litter after litter.

I don't think it is strange at all to talk to animals. In fact I somrtimes visit the graves of dead animals I've known and talk to them. Yeah, maybe that's a little strange, but I enjoy it.

It WAS a surprise, sbk. Boogs was only 10 months at the time he impregnated Asuilu. We were guessing anywhere from 4 to 6 puppies and it was a total surprise when she had 10. As they are all great looking dogs it didn't take long to find homes for them. But, I think it would be much more difficult with a second litter. They aren't planning on breeding Asuilu for another few years... if that. Boogs has turned into a fabulous dog that carries a pack, swims in fast water, tracks wounded deer, retrieves grouse and generally behaves... unless you try to keep him in when he wants fo to go out...

This is an inside door that Matt THOUGHT would keep him in... I love the "Who me?" look. When Linda came home she found Boogs upstairs and sleeping on the living room sofa. Boogs had clawed and chewed his way right through the door.

That looks more like a 'don't fence me in again' expression.

An udder what ?.............. An udder dog?.......... or an udder Wolf ?

You've seen the size of Hubby. Who's going to tell him he can't, well you know ...................?

The kitten on the tortoise is still killing me!!! I must have watched it 30 or 40 times!!! Belly laughs!!!

A couple of years ago I had to go through the death of Saturna in my home, I think she went into a coma. But i laid her on the bed and talked to her and she purred for about 4 hours and then took her last breath. I was running into the kitchen to make myself cups of coffee and running back to be with her. She was a vocal cat and we used to make fun of her because of her tummy she would polish the parquet!!

I just hope that my talking to her, helped her as she died at the grand old age of 15.

I wrote a thread about Saturna on the Pets forum. I haven't actually read it in a few months.

I talk to my cat, i talk to my friend's dogs, I talk to anyone that will listen to me....

My dog Scruffy did the same thing to our door when he got locked in once. Who knew such a little dog could do so much damage (mostly hair, and probably only about 7k)

Love this dog, can you imagine saying hello to a dog and it answers hello back? :P

That's not so much. I used to say hello to my dog, and he'd say "Hello? Do you know what time it is? You said you'd be back in an hour and it's been three. Did you bring me a treat. You'd BETTER have brought me a treat! Mmmm, liver, feeling guilty weren't you? Ok I'll take you on a hike, but please try to keep up." Pretty chatty but I miss him anyhow.

Yes, I could imagine loving that dog. Boogs is also very vocal and I always talk to him in dog talk using the same vocal sounds he uses. He loves it. I talk to Asuilu in baby talk and she loves it. It's all about the tone but seldom about the actual words... even though dogs CAN understand many words. Some breeds are far better at it than others.

There is no question that humans love their pets, and they become incensed when they see animals mistreated. Recently in British Columbia (Canada) a sled dog company "culled" (killed) over 200 sled dogs for no other reason than the company had an excess number of dogs for their business. When people heard about it there was a justifiable outrage. It has led to changing of some Canadian laws.

Sleepy time, it's mummys sleepy time.

Then i get the purring that goes on and on and on. With a great big furry face in my face. Breathing wiskas up my nostrels. And kneading the duvet.

Sleepy time....

And cramps in your legs because you are afraid to wake the bugger up....

I used to have four of them, spread across my bed. I slept in the top right hand corner!!

But I still talked to them. Wee devils!!!

Hard not to love something that exhibits such unconditional love.
