Air Asia Check-In Time Limit

Featured Replies

2 reasons for my inquiry: 1) Based upon another poster's experience, I could expect to be dropped off (bus from Pattaya) for an International flight (Cambodia - escaping Songkran in Pattaya) 55 minutes before departure. 2) I know some airlines in the US in some locations, close check-in one hour before flight departure. So, I will have a big problem if Air Asia follows a one hour policy.

Thanks very much for any helpful info. :D

I wouldn't risk a bus for a tight connection anyways. I THINK AirAsia closes the check-in counters 45 minutes prior, but with the long immigration delays people have been experiencing on outbound flights there is no way I would arrive at the airport less than 2 hours prior to an international flight. I suggest you look at AirAsia's website for their policy on international flight check-ins.

I'm hoping that because of the immigration queue problems they'll allow check in 3 hours before, maybe more.

I won't be takin any chances leaving it to the last minute on 13th April.

Thanks for both of the replies. I will follow your advise.

I agree....I wouldn't chance it. I'm pretty sure that the official cut-off is 45 minutes. I know that I've checked in later than that before (because of long lines), but I've also seen them turn away people who didn't make the cut-off.

Cut off for check in is strictly 1 hour before departure.

Cut off for check in is strictly 1 hour before departure.

Unfortunately this is NOT true.. Air Asia speaks to this for fact, in their Contract of Carriage-- the legal document the governs your ticket and travel with Air Asia-- in Section 6.1.1,

In part it says "Check-In, Deadlines and Conditions: Our check-in counters are open two (2) hours before the scheduled flight departure time. The counters close forty-five (45) minutes before the scheduled flight departure time*.... * For AirAsia flights to and from Australia our check-in counters will open 3 hours and close 60 minutes prior to the scheduled flight departure time."

So, the official cut-off time IS in fact 0:45 to scheduled departure time-- except for AU flights.

You can see the full text of the contract here:

Was at teh airport on Sunday and there's big signs displayed saying check in closes 45 minutes before departure.

There were no queues at immigration either at 1pm.

^ You must have been lucky. I was on the Air Asia Phnom Penh flight a couple of Saturdays ago and we took exactly 1 hour 15 minutes to get through Immigration. The queues were outside the Immigration areas, spilling into the departure areas. People were getting very frustrated and annoyed, so much so thatb fights were almost breaking out. Some Vietnamese were trying to sneak into another line and some Russians were getting very angry and there were several heated verbal exchanges between passengers.

I have to add that the Immigration staff did not help at all and were extremely unpleasant; almost arrogant to boot and very inefficient. Looked to me as if they were deliberately taking their time.

A thoroughly unpleasant experience overall and one of the worst I have had at any airport in recent memory.
