I can't remember whether to re-apply for a one year extension before the expiry, on the day of the expiry, or the day after the expiry of my current one year extension.

Please advise.

I would probably do it one month before - but will I then "lose" the one month should everything go through smoothly?

I.e. does the extension start from the end date of the previous stamed in "permission to stay" or from the day the extension is issued.

Also; is there any fees involved in obtaining the 1 year extension?

Cheers!

As long as you continue one year extensions of stay they will end on the same date the first one ended (one day prior to your entry into Thailand prior to that first application).

An extension of stay requires a Tm.7 and payment of 1,900 baht.

They end on the same date unless your passport expires before the end of the visa, something I found out this year :o My passport expired a week before my visa and so they changed the visa date to the same date as my passport. Unfortunately, when I got a new passport they didn't readjust the visa date to the previous one so now I am renewing on the new date. Thank goodness it was only a weeks difference (which is maybe why they didn't change it back?) but what if it had been 3 months or so? Would i have lost those 3 months of my one year extension? I think probably yes :D

If you enter Thailand on a multiple entry non-imm 1 year visa (the one where you have to leave and re-enter every ninety days) and apply for an extension 30 days before the last re-entry expires (ie after 1 year) does the extension start from the date of your last entry or from your first?

Your current (last) entry.

As SBK mentioned you should arrange a full year or more validity to passport prior to any scheduled yearly extension. Keeping check of passport validity is another thing for the computer memo list - with the renewals and 90 day reports (one of these days I will remember to enter them). :o

SBK. I had this before, the extention cannot go beyond the p/port's validity.

but they do stamp a remark and when I came back with the new p/port got everything transferred and extented to the initial period.

My wife presently has this 'problem, as p/port expires in March 06, did not get extented til July. Wait and see what happens sometime next week or after.

Yes, can confirm now. Wife got her new p/port, took both to BKK-immigration.

Visa transferred and old extention til July granted.

So as said, whatever extention you can get will not go beyond the validity of the passport, however, you will not lose the time once presented a new or extented p/port.
