Non-imm 'o' - Working Prohibited?

Featured Replies

I am shortly moving out to Thailand, and have got myself a non-immigrant 'o' visa, as I have a Thai wife. I am planning to get a teaching job at some point in the future, and was under the impression that there was no problem in obtaining a work permit and working on a non-imm 'o'. However I have just received my visa, and it has been stamped 'WORKING PROHIBITED'. Is this something that is put on all non-imm o's, or will it actually mean that I won't be allowed to work on that visa?

I have a non-o with a one year extension and don't have that stamped on my passport. I was under the impression that one could get a wp with a non-O. Lopburi, you are the expert here!

You can work once you have a work permit. I had a multiple non o with Employment prohibited stamped at the bottom but no problem obtaining work permit.

Its like Julie says, you are eligible to work in Thailand when you have a work permit with your Non Immigrant Visa O. You can obtain a work permit from immigration Office or you can use an agent bureau.

As said it is not a problem once you have a work permit - it just alerts you that you can not enter Thailand and work just using the visa.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Thought I was probably worrying about nothing, but wanted to double check.
