One of my more frugal buddies used to sit in front of the convenience store near the corner and have a beer and wait for a real stunner to come buy something and follow her back to her bar. Back home he would have been arrested for stalking. :D

5555555555555 good idea.

The more attractive girls have always tended to hide inside as they have no problem attracting customers.

When i was out and about loi kroh and other beer bar areas 12 years ago before i married i saw a lot of good looking girls that did not hide inside the bars. There were plenty standing outside trying to get punters to come into the bars. It is bad marketing to only have the old ugly overweight girls standing outside.

As recently as 2007 there were many young beauties standing out there, but the poor economy and lack of tourism over the last couple of years has sent them to greener pastures.

Too bad. Thanks to this thread i had to go check it out. i lasted for only 1 beer. The one girl i talked to told me that she did not get very many customers because all the tourists are cheap charlies now. I had to ask her how much she was asking them. After she told me her prices i knew why she was not getting any customers. If you charge champagne prices for a bottle of chang do not expect to have many buyers.

As I've said more than a few times, it's just like shopping for anything. You have to look at all the merchandise in all the shopping malls before settling on any particular item. There is always something new that attracts the eye, and once you decide what you want, it's down to negotiations and settling on a price that is satisfactory to both parties. Sometimes the item turns out to be a dud and you have to get rid of it. At other times it is satisfactory and you use it until it finally wears out. I've got a closet full of old cameras that I don't use any more and a whole house full of fishing tackle that I seldom use. I also have a photo album of old girl friends who didn't work out as well as expected. Loi Kroh road is sort of like that. It's left me with some great memories.

You bet it would :D

I think you guys aren't looking hard enough. I could point out several who are well under 20. (and under 18 actually).

Thing is though, what is someone who's at least twice their age going to talk about with those kids.. As said before, there's just more to talk about with people with some life experience.

Stimulating conversation? Sure. What's wrong with discussing whether the fried squid tastes better than the barbequed water beetles? Or, whether or not the Thai soup needs a few more hot peppers? Or, best out of 5 at 8 ball pays for drinks.

Interesting a posted judgement on one stretch of road all of a sudden draws out a lot of Thai women bashers and some even went to the farong women bashing.

As for the road it is a great experience if you are new to Thailand. If you are not new it is a great place to meet a wife for a night. If you are looking for culture what the F are you doing there. Do you go to five star hotels looking for bar girls. It is what it is and that is a part of Chiang Mai

Sorry to disappoint but my wife of five years is the best thing that ever happened to me. Of course she is 53 and I am 69 nor do I have a million Baht to give her every year.

I do not fool my self if I was buying a women or looking for one less than half my age I would expect to get some unwanted results.

You bet.

Topics that often come up include food, kids and parenting, living overseas and visa issues, interesting places to visit around Chiang Mai daytime/nighttime, other places/provinces in Thailand -specifcally her home province, relationships, employment issues, English and Thai language, Thai and Farang culture, and politics. As well as completely odd-ball stuff that you'd just never ever expect; trade in wild animals for example, from a person with first-hand experience, last Saturday.

Those only looking for a quick barfine and/or those who barely speak enough Thai to order a beer wouldn't know, of course.

Shssss, Winnie, yah weren't supposed to tell everyone! That is what I like about being a long time visitor to a few local bars. After a while you become sort of like the furniture and you're one of the gang. You get to go along on the parties and hang out with the crowd. After a while your age doesn't seem to matter and you listen to all the stories.

Yup. Ended up joining in for dinner last Saturday. (Home cooked meal.. or bar cooked meal I suppose). Made a mental note to bring some nice food next time.

I get the same in Pattaya by the way; it always makes me wonder why so many people go on about Pattaya being touristy and unfriendly.. My experience is quite the opposite, it's a very Thai experience. And I often bring some fruit or snacks from Chiang Mai, that's always highly appreciated. ;)

In order for fine upstanding expats(like me) to be able to avoid contact with very naughty girls whilst getting a massage, perhaps we need to make a detailed list of the really bad places. B)

Sorry there, I didn't mean to cut you off hyku1147!

Back to your question. I'm sure you would be safe in most of the places on the main street but I would definately avoid entering the infamous 'spunk alley'!

That is why I use my system even if it uses up band width. I always enjoy your photos, Dave. Say hello to the girls for me and tell them I'm thinking of them. :)

Copy-n-paste or not, Massivepuffin has the Thai bar lingo down pat.:D

Last time I went through on a boxing night there were more girls than customers by far. It would seem that not a lot of the owners bother turning up until much later (if at all). Perhaps an informal impromtu Thaivisa study/fact finding group is required one night. Could help kick start the local economy one Chang at a time.

Yes I've heard of this spunk alley, where is it and why exactly is it called spunk alley? Can anyone clarify?

I am the 10,230th view here. Forgot to note which poster number I have. A fair amount of the discussion previously, some posts really quite thoughtful, has been of interest on the impact of a "Loi Khroh"area on a town, the impact on people who live and work there, and people who visit it. But, this thread has increasingly turned into a place for horny males to express adolescent fantasies, to find and or evaluate a good lay or whatever. I am not an old "school marm," but why should TV be turned into guide for immature types to find out where the "action" is? It would be better to jerk off by yourself or get jerked off somewhere else. Please. :jap:

Topics covered today:

---

* Similarities between my work and that of bar girls. What's your biggest headache in your job? Customers! Just like me. Customers you have to keep happy if at all possible, but if they get truly unreasonable then there is a limit that you need to lay down the line clearly. Agreement all around. Working on projects is just like bar work.

* Politics: Number 1 vs Number 10. I'm noticing the signs for Number 10 are going up quite a bit higher on the poles so they don't get ripped or changed. ;) Some girls seemed pleasantly surprised about my political allegiances.

* Quietness and lack of people going to bars. Offered to shout a bit to make it less quiet. Also pointed out that 'mai mee Farang' was not accurate as there were three such individuals in the bar, including me.

* Health, dieting & exercise.

* One girl locked herself out of her Windows notebook computer. :) Told her it can be fixed without going through a full reinstall. Offered to do it for her if she brings it with her on Friday. If it happens I'm planning to make it look really difficult and pretend to be a master hacker, even though it takes about 1 minute. Communication was not easy with this one as she didn't speak Thai too well. Recent import it seems.

* Facebook. Benefits vs risks.. Mark Zuckerberg likely didn't have prostitutes in mind when he built it. Though there is a case to be made to use it, especially for people who have somewhat of a life and transparent relationships.

-------

Anyway; the above may not be of the highest level, it's pretty much what also might come up talking with Farang guys, and most definitely nothing like the stereotypical bar-talk pasted earlier. Of course you get that too, but it's entirely up to you if you want to stay at that level.

You DO have a point, mapguy, but would you rather thaivisa became a boring place where the only discussion was if your Kow padt gai comes with a bowl of consume soup or not? Like it or not, the most active topics always seem to be ones where either sex is discussed or someone is bashing someone else's life style. The Chiang Mai sub-forum seems to be totally dedicated to places to eat and what to eat. It is handy for finding out where some specific place is located, but after that a forum will die if there isn't any action. That is one of the major faults with thaivisa and all the sub-forums. Very often we miss out on a good, valuable discussion because it is in a sub-forum that we seldom visit. It would take the better part of a whole day just to search through every forum on this board.

Ahhh..., the old "I can fix your computer if you bring it to my place" ploy. Isn't the computer age wonderful?
