I Hearby open up the official Baseball Playoff Thread here for all the 4 or 5 baseball fans on Thaivisa!

:D

For the American Leauge Division series.............

Los Angeles Angels ( National Leauge East Champions) vs. New York Yankees ( National Leauge East Champions )

Too bad the Yanks lost that last game to Boston.....It would have been great to have the home opener at Yankee Stadium!

and....

Boston Red Sox ( Wildcard winner ( Sorry Cleaveland! ) vs. Chicago White Sox ( National Leauge Central Champions )

Now for the National Leauge Division series.......

St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Diego Padres

Altlanta Braves vs. Houston Astros

As you can tell, I'm more of an AL fan..... :D

Thread is open to all base ball fans, I don't want this to be all about the Yankees ( well, at least until the Series starts! :o )

Posted

A whole day goes by, and not ONE single comment?

Maybe I should have a sound file of crickets chirping here!

I know there are a ton of Angels, White Sox, Red Sox, Astros, Braves, Padres and Cardinal baseball fans out there in Thaivisa land......Right?

Anyhooo...... :o

Yanks took game 1 against the Angels yesterday at Anaheim! ( 4-2 )

Too bad New York had to lose that last game at Boston last sunday, or they would have opened in Yankee Stadium! :D

I was worried at first, because I remember what happeded when they last played in the ALDS back in 2002, plus they won more games against New York during the regular season. Chone Figgins is incredible player fast guy,and Vladimir Guerro, he bats like a madman!

But thanks to Robbie Cano( his very first postseason game as rookie ) and his three run double in the first inning (with Jason Giambi, Gary Sheffied, and Hideki Matsui doing the honors on bases) and shut those Angles fans up with their silly "Thunder Sticks!"

Also thanks to Mike "Moose" Mussina he lasted for a good 5 innings ), they where able to keep the Angles down and get that early lead.

Good thing Angels Pitcher Bartolo Colon was not up to game! but he did manage to hit A-Rod with that fastball in the ribs in the second inning! :D :D

And don't forget that big base running blunder by Guerro inthe 6th inning! :D

Right now..I'm watching the second game, it's currently Yankees up 1-zip in the bottom of the fifth inning...

As for the other guys in the ALDS...... ChiSox won the first(14 -2! ) AND second game against the Bosox......Chicago leading 2-zip now....What is going on? Iwish I could have seen the games. As much as I dislike the Redsox, I want them to survive long enough to play the Yankees in the ALCS! :D

a_wells_372.jpg

Poor Boomer.....I guess the Curse is back in effect....

Well, the Chicago is going to Fenway this Friday....But the game is going to be televised while I'm still at work, at 4:00pm! :D

Now as for the National leauge......Let's see... :D

( National Leauge games generally are not televised on Primetime Network TV, mostly on Sports Cable...So I haven't been able to see any NLDS Games on TV yet. )

St. Louis Cardinals beat San Diego Padres 8 - 5....and Game 1 of the Huston Astros beat Atlanta Braves (10 - 5! )

Now I like the Cards and the Astros ( they got Andy Petit and Rodger Clemen, both former longtime Yanks :D ) and hope they get to play each other for the NLCS playoffs next week or two....

Anyone want to place imaginary bets? :D

Yanks win first series easy IMO.

Not looking good for Boston but they are good at coming back.

Houston/Atlanta is a toss-up.

St. Louis wins their series easy, maybe sweep. I do have real money on that!

Posted (edited)

Why isn't Aaron Small in the Yankee rotation? He pitched so well in the season and I was expecting him to be their #3 starter after Johnson and Mussina in the play-offs (in preference to Chacon and Wang)

Yeah, I pretty much agree! :D

Looks like Boston would need another miracle to get out of the hole they are in now.

Maybe If they can get a hold of Jose Contreras pitches or something..

Anyway,Chisox are looking very good this year - best ERA in the American Leauge , I think... :D

They MAY even have a good chance to reach the World series, unlike that other Chicago Baseball team... :o:D

I was thinking the same thing. Yeah, Aaron Small is a great pitcher, was one of the major factors in bringing the Yankees to the AL EAST title. He pitched so well against the games with Baltimore Oreiloles (sp?), but for some reason, he hasn't played since the 29th. I knew that Joe Torre was making up the Post Season Roster after they won the playoff spot. I'll try to find out the real reason why this is. Right now, I think The Yankees need all the firepower they can get! :D

on other news...

I woke up this moring and got the news....Angles won last night's game 2 against the Yanks? :o When I went to bed around 12:00, the score was 2 - 1 ( I hate late games! ). I thought New York would get another win. I got to get some more info to see what exactly happened... :D

Ok everyone!

Let's once again see what's going on in the wonderful world of Post Season BASEBALL!

( .....Cut to the Sound of crickets in the background.... :D )

...In the ALDS......

So, when I went to sleep last night, the Yankees were up by one against the Angels with in Game 2. Score (5-3)...I heard that the Yanks made some major errors in the game...

New York And Las Angeles are tied right now. Luckly Game 3 is tomorrow, back here in New York, with the Yanks home field advantage. Plus, BIG UNIT ( Randy Johnson ) is going to be on the mound - He did wonders against Boston last Saturday, so hopefully, things should be ok....Hopefully, it will be best in three( in New Yorks favor, that is.... :D )

As for the Bosox.....Well, they are down by two, a pretty big hole, but they may be able to get out of it, like they did last year in the ALCS. White Sox looks like they may even get a world series berth, somthing they did not do since 1917, I think..... sounds familiar? :o

Well, the Sox will be back at Fenway, I pray that they do well........ :D

Both Bosox/Redsox and Yanks/Angels games are tomorrow (New York City Time ).

Sox games will be shown in the afternoon, but the other game will be in the evening.

Boy, I wish I had tickets! :D

Now in the NLDS....

I don't really follow many teams in the National leauges, but I have my favorites, one of them St. Louis!

Yeah, seems that the Cards are putting away those Padres...... Second win today (6-2 ).

San Diego has been pretty mediocre, what little that I follow of them. Any Padres fans out there?

( Que again to the Sound of Crickets chirping in the background... :D )

One doesn't have to bet to know that St. Louis is going to be in the NLCS next week... :D

The game was during the afternoon, so I didn't have a chance to see it.

But I did see most of the game 2 of the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros on network TV tonight.

The Rocket ( Rodger Clemens ) was opening pitcher, thought he would do well...

Houston took it in the first inning, but funny enough, I changed the channel to watch SURVIVOR Guatamala for a few minutes, then I cam back on the commercial, to find that Atlanta scored someting like 5 runs...... By the 8th inning, I new that the game was more or less over, with final score ( 1-7 ). So , Atlanta is also tied with Houston....For now.... :D

Well, tomorrow is a big day for my leauge, the AL..... Let's see what happens!

:D

I think Johnson, in his current form, should be a safe bet.

However I am pessimistic about the rest of the Yankees pitching. With Chacon, Wang, and Mussina, they look vulnerable. They might do okay, but equally, they could all lose.

I think Sox of the non-Red variety look strongest at this stage.

Yeah, Big Unit has rested for a week since Boston so he should be in full strength, andI think that he can handle the pressure making his first postseason start pitching as a Yankee tonight. Success for New York is mostly gonna hinge on how goodhe performs tonight. And I'm pretty sure he should do well.

I think Sox of the non-Red variety look strongest at this stage.

I think it's too soon to call it a sweep as yet....The Red Sox have a history of coming behind and winning important games inthe last two postseasons ( Oakland A's in '03, and Yanks in '04 in the ALCS ). The pressure is on them tonight, ( not to mention they are back home in Fenway ), so I believe they will do well also tonight... I hope... :D

But the Cards look like they will most definitely sweep the Padres...

As for the Astros /Braves, it's 50/50 now, but I'd say Houston....

AAHAHAHHGGGGGG!

the score is 5 - 0 right now, top of the 4th!

What is going on with Randy Johnson! I thought he was supposed to do well against left handed batters!

The fans are booing, and I don't blame them... And I'm sure Steinbreiner and Cashman aren't too please, all that money spent on him....

:o

Why isn't Aaron Small in the Yankee rotation? He pitched so well in the season and I was expecting him to be their #3 starter after Johnson and Mussina in the play-offs (in preference to Chacon and Wang)

.....Well, we now who replaced the Big Unit in the 4th Inning.... :D

Now Yanks are at Bat.....Bottom of the 4th...

Wait, what's goin' on here...... Hideki is up....

Matsui-San Home run!!!

Now New York is on the Board!!!!

:D:D:D:D:D:D

Now it's 5 -1

wait....

Now it's 5-2 by Posada....

Now Bernie......

Now it's 5-3.....

All in the 4th inning....

Yanks seem to have finally woken up!!

This is going to be an interesting game......

Meanwhile.....

The Boston Redsox are out of the playoffs.....I guess they couldn't come back after that deficit.....Moog, Tripcore, you were on the ball!

I was hoping they would at least get to the ACLS again, but hey, they got a world series last year.....

Looks like it may be the Chisox year..... Hopefully not.........:D

Posted

Giambi!! now it's 5 - 4!

(I wonder if those 'roids are still in his system? :D )

Still 4th Inning!

Shefflied's up! Hit! Chone Figgins cought his pop fly, and inning over.

What an inning!

"Smallie" ( Aron Small ) has gotten 6 outs on 13 pitches - What a lifesaver!

Yanks are only down by one now....

They better keep that momentum!

:o

Posted

Yup, They are down by one now....Unless they Win today, it looks like My Yankees are one loss away from postseason elimination.... :D

I hope that that would not be the case.....Besides, Tripcore ( and a whole lot of other people, I imagine! ) have alot riding on the Yankees making it to the Series! :D

Now I just don't understand how Big Unit collaped in the third inning..... Maybe it was the weather, it's been raining here in NYC, and I know that Johnson's used to starting in good weather/Domed stadiums...But that is no excuse....$32 million...... :D

Even though Aron Small managed to help things for a while, he did let two runs through, just like "Flash" Gordon and Al Lieter after him.... :D

And they are going to have this new Yankee pitcher they got from the Rockies, Shawn Cachon start today. Now I admit,he's done pretty well so far during the last part of the regular season, but the question , will he be good enough for today?

Where is El Duque when you need him.....

Oh, I forgot, he's pitching for the Chicago White Sox now.... :o

Yeah, the White Sox swept the Red Sox....Who would have thought? :D

But the Chisox were the much better team all around in those games.

Now it looks like the Cards will do the same to the Padres today...

If the Angels do manage to get to the ALCS, they will have a tought time against Chicago.

As for the NLCS, I think that the Astros will be playing the Cards, and that outcome, who knows?

Three games today....Two for the NLDS and one for the ALDS....

After today, I'm pretty sure things will look quite interesting....

Anyway, all I have to say right now is....

GO YANKEES!!!

:D

Just found out that the Yankees/Angels game 4 of the ALDS is rained out today ( yeah, it's been raining all day here in NYC.. )

:D

Postponed, the game is going to be pushed back to tomorrow, until 7:30 PM.....

Hopefully, this will give New York some time to regroup somewhat, and prevent the Angels from Clinching on Sunday... :o

I wonder....

a_duque_412.jpg

Will it be "CHI TIME " next week?

:D

Posted

Ok.......The Braves have gone by the wayside in the Postseason.....Yet again.... :o

g_astros_372.jpg

Watch some of the game last night, knew where it was going to go by the 7th inning, went back to playing Playstation 2.... :D

Wasn't able to catch Game 4 this afternoon, but I knew what the score was even before I found out.......I knew the "Rocket" was pitching!

So it's now the Astros and the Cardinals going into the NLCS next week.......

As for the ACLS....... :D

Game 4 of the Yankees / Angels tonight!

Yankees can win and force a game 5 back to Anaheim ( which I guess they expect to do, confident, since in their infinite wisdom, they left Mike Mussina AND Bartolo Colon back in California, supposedly for him to be well rested for it... )

Wish that they didn't limit their pitching options.....

i_chacon_195.jpg

Shawn Cacon is the starter tonight for the Yankees, he's done pretty well since he was picked up from the Rockies, but I wonder how well he will do tonight, first postseason games... If he does bad, are they going to keep the same pitching rotation? Maybe bring in Johnson? :D

I wonder if Bengie Molina hasn't recovered from that hit on the elbow last Friday- for the Yankees sake I hope not!!

The Angles can knock New York out of the playoffs.....The pressure is on the Yankees, it's time to do or die! :o

Game is starting in a few minutes.....Well see....

Whover wins...The White Sox are waiting.......But I hope it will be the Yankees that will play Chicago in the ALCS!

:D

Yanks, keeping it real!

Managed to squeek by with a score on Angles 2-3

ALDS Series tied , 2-2!

The Yanks Pitching was good tonight!

I'm surprised and very happy that Cacon did as well as he did for his first Postseason start! Up to the top of the 7th inning I think, when he allowed 2 runs. He must have done a good job -The crowd gave him a Standing ovation when going back to the Yanks dugout!

And Al Leiter is smiling - allowed no hits - Last time he had a Postseason win, I think GWB senior was in office! :D

It was also good that they Brought in Mo ( Mariano Reviera ) when they did! :o

I guess Torre knew that they were going to win tonight, leaving Moose ( Mussina ) back in Anahiem like he did!

Fans were also cheering Bernie ( Williams ) whenever he was at bat , this may have been his last game ( been here for 15 years! )

And Jorge Posada...What can I say.... :D

For the last NLDS game today...

I heard that the Braves/Astros game today was 18 innings! Unheard of!

Maybe it was a good thing I missed that game! :D

a_astroswin_372.jpg

These guys are happy....Playing the Cards again in the NLCS, just like last year!

But going back to the Yankees.....

They're "Going Back to Cali"!!

:D

Now I can go to bed and sleep peacefully now....

Decisive Game 5 in Anaheim tomorrow at 8:00 pm Eastern Standard time...5:00Pm West Coast ( yes, America is a BIG country! )

One more game of the ALDS...

White Sox just waiting....

GO YANKEES!!

(Hey, Yes, I know I am the only one posting, let alone reading this thread... :D )

Posted

Oh Well....There is always next year..... :o

I'm too bummed to even talk about what went wrong for the yanks in Game Five....Everything that could have gone wrong DID go wrong ( that collision between Shefflied and Bubba Crosby in the second inning when they were both trying to get that great right center drive by the Angels Kennedy would have been downright funny in another situation.. )

Anyway...

Congrats to Rookie Pitcher Evin Santana and the rest of the Las Angeles Angels...... I'm man enough to admit that they were the better team this Division series.

Will I still watch the ALCS and the NLCS?

Of course! So what if my team didn't make to the Championship series, I'm still a Baseball fan!

:D

Next stage...The ALCS and the NLCS!
