Importing Cars To Thailand

Used cars and used motorcycles are not allowed to be imported into Thailand. Having said that, there is an exception to every rule and in this case if you have owned the car for more than a year and a half in your home country you can ask for an exception from the Thai Ministry of Commerce when you become a resident here in Thailand. You didn't mention the reason you will be living here and whether it will be permanent or not. All of this comes into play when you visit the Ministry. All of this will cost you heaps of money in fees, duty and VAT taxes. At the end of the day you will probably pay well over 200% of the value of your car to the Thai government. Don't, whatever you do, ship the car before you receive permission from the Ministry. I would also suggest having a clearing agent in Bangkok pass all of this by Customs before you do anything.
