Getting Married For Love Or Security?

Featured Replies

There is a troll post in General, in my view, multiple password retrieval disorder in action, I have neglected to post, but one more single malt may do the trick.

But an interesting point, women marry for security, men for love, you will obviously guess I disagree, what are your views?

Are you asking me mossy? I would think anyone who knows me would know the answer to that; I don't give two figs about how much money someone makes and prefer strength of character, honesty, sense of humor, intelligence, consideration and kindness.

I can take care of myself, cheers, I prefer a husband, not a caretaker.

In other words, far more difficult to fulfill than mere money and security.

Oh, and one other small requirement. I don't deal with snakes or dead stuff. So, yeah, I guess I do go for security after all ;)

What about spiders?

Don't like the things much myself, but many years ago I was in a girl-friend's house, with her and her sister, when a dinner-plate sized spider strolled across the room.

Both girls went into utter hysterics, but when I went to whop it, they said NO! Take it outside.

So I had to pick it up and take it through the kitchen to the garden. Hated doing it.

But a man's got to do ...

I am sure that generalisations "men do this, women do that" will be completely off the mark in this subject.

I am sure some women marry for security, and some for love.....some for convenience, and some for family "duty"......some may marry the first bloke that asks because all her friends have married and she doesn't want to be different.......and so on.

By the same token, I am sure that some men marry for love, and some for a cook and warm body to use.......right now, if a rich old bag wanted to marry me, I would probably say yes because I am poor. :D .....but ideally, it would be for love.

Spiders? nah, they are fine. We had a giant huntsman type spider in our bathroom once and I almost took him outside as he was quite big but then a small cockroach ran out and the spider ate it, so Mr. Spider stayed. I even kinda like spiders.

I don't even mind non-poisonous snakes but I won't deal with the cobras.

Not too thrilled with rats but I will take out the live trap to let them go on the other side of the road.

Everybody is a little bit different. I know why I married the first time and why I married the second time, and I can also say why I would never marry again under any circumstance, but my experiences are unlikely to match anyone elses. My first wife and I were basically two people ready to get married and each of us fit the other's expectations. It wasn't love on my part, but I was ready to get married and wanted a family. After 20 years my first wife ended our relationship to "find" herself. I stuck around long enough for my children to graduate from highschool. I was smitten by my second wife and was still in love when she left me with her drug addicted son. Neither wife contributed anything financially to our marriage even though I was just a middle class working stiff earning an average wage. When my marriages ended I split everything 50-50 and wound up with a quarter of what I had worked 40 years to obtain. But, I'm not bitter nor angry. They both did me a favour by leaving.

Prince Charles was in love with Camilla but was basically forced into marrying princess Diana because it fit the Royal process. I don't have a clue why he was in love with an older, "plain Jane"Camilla, but from what I understand they are much happier than when he was married to the lovely Diana. And, there have been some equally strange pairings in the Hollywood elite.

I like Vegemite, you like Marmite, some people like neither. 'nuff said.

I married for love, i was so in love that it almost killed me.

It lasted five and a half years, being put down, beaten up, etc. was not what i thought was true love in the end.

Do you want us to go round his place and beat him up Pats?

You know endure, we have never met but why do I get the impression (and I don't mean from this post) you are not someone who it would be a good idea to verbally threaten in a dark alley, or a fully illuminated one for that matter.

I think part of the answer is that Camilla fulfilled the needs that he required, Diana fitted certain requirements too, to produce an heir principally, however looks are and remain superficial and are only skin deep.

But lets also remember, Diana was unfaithful on several fronts, allegedly, and Charles, allegedly, on only one. All three deserved each other.

Because I'd bash you with my handbag B)

And I bet he can't find anything he wants in it when required :D

And its a very large handbag you have too endure ;)

Behave yourself you saucy minx :P

Did anyone but me and Patsy actually answer Mossy's question?

I think everyone's age and station in life will have some influence on the answer. A young person who wants to start a family and have a life with someone they find attractive is going to have a different reply than someone choosing to get married later in life. A man who already has some degree of stability and wealth is going to have different priorities to a poor woman who already has a child to care for.

Ian, do you have any idea what that statement is actually shouting out to the readers?

No, I don't. As you know so much more than me, please inform me so I can learn from your higher degree of intelligence.

Interesting, Patsy. That tells me that even though you two couldn't live together in harmony he still had feelings for you. I no longer have feelings for either of my previous wives but I wouldn't wish either of them any harm and only wish the best for them. It seems that F1fanatic on thaivisa forum also had a previous husband that left his will to her before he died.
