Visa Run Burma: How Big Is The Stamp?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've 6 months left on my trip, but only 5 free pages in my passport.

I'm considering a visa run to Burma for a few hours (not a regular stay!) when being in Chiang Rai, but does anyone of you know how large the stamp or entry is they put in the passport?

Does it cover a full page as the Burma visa I got 2 years ago? What about the costs?

Though OT here, it would also be of great interest for me how it is about the Indonesia visa (visa stamp size, price, duration, availability on arrival), as I plan to go to Indonesia in January.

thanks a lot!

This seems to be a very unusual question.

Doesn't any of the expats know how much place they take in the passports when you do a visa run to Burma? puhleese!

Thanks in advance,

pepi

You could always approach your embassy and see if they can either add pages to your passport, or issue a new one.

Cheers,

Scouse.

You could probably fit 4 x Myanmar (Tachleik) stamps on one page.

Thanks a lot for the information.

I'm from an EU country and my embassy told me that I could only get an "emergency passport" valid for only 6 months, but still costing almost 80 Euro (!!), or I had to be a permanent resident in Thailand to get a NEW passport.

They told me there is no other option.

Isn't it great we are in the EU now? :-(

EU-passport indeed come only in 32- or 48-page versions and additional pages

cannot be done.

REgular p/ports only to be issued at the place of residence.

OK, I do live3 in Bangkok, still my embassy needs around 6 weeks to issue a new p/port.

And the mergency-things are no great help, valid for 6 months, only while still a lot of countries want minimum 6 months for issuing visa or entry, although some changed to 3 months.

I am going back three years here but when I went over to Mai Sai (Sp??) for a day the Brma side did not stamp my passport at all, in fact they were only shwon a photocopy if my memory serves me correctly. They charged me 5 dollars and gave me a green visa/receipt slip. There was just a little man in an office handing out green bits of paper for five dollars a pot!

Then we came back after the day trip to Thai immigration who had held onto our passports (we gave Burma photocopy!) - I think - don't worry people who needed to get stamped were getting stamped! - was all very strange but certainly I do not have any stamps from Burma - just the little green slip - so you may well have room in your passport unless things have greatly changed in three years.

I have just double checked my passport and def no stams from that trip but then we were still within our 90 day visa so they realised it did not need renewed - there were certainly tourists doing the visa run at the time.

Hope that helps any - ask around if you are in Chang Rai - that was how we found out we needed to turn up with photocopies etc - as I said was all very strange!
