Poi Pet Visa Run Question...?

Featured Replies

I need to make a visa run tomorrow (I curently have non-immigrant B valid until 1/06, with a re-entry permit)...my question is:

Do I have to actually enter Cambodia (I do not wish to), or can I just check out (exit) of Thailand, turn right around a and go back into Thailand...?

I know technically it is no business of the Thai government once I depart as long as I have the proper documentation to enter again...however, I can foresee the potential of a wise old comander at his post making me spend more money than I need just to amuse himself.

What's the current opinion...?

Cheers and thanks.

TT

You must have an entry/exit stamp from Cambodia when you return to enter Thailand.

I did not have the time to go to the Cambodian Embassy here in Bkk...can I get the visa for Cambodia at their border, and if yes...how much is it (so I am prepared)...?

Yes........when you exit Thailand walk across the bridge and cross the road there is an office they/ll sort you out...........i normally have my visa before going but i believe its 1000 baht on the border...........maybe somebody else could confirm this.

Axel, you’ve got the same avatar as Roon, without the text, but yours is so fuzzy by comparison. Planning to comb your cat’s hair? :o

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Found it, but Rooo is member since 2004-04-11.

I use mine since 2003. Perhaps suffering from too much work and need a haircut?

I find this very strange.

Just imagine the following plausible scenario. At Poipet, you exit Thailand normally (get your exit stamp on your passport), cross the border, then proceed to the Cambodia entry point, just to find out that you can't enter Cambodia (there can be dozens of reasons for being denied to enter a country...). Then you turn back towards the Thailand entry point (you do NOT have any Cambodia stamp on your passport since you did not enter the country), and simply explain to the Thai immigration officers that you were denied entry into Cambodia and you wish to re-enter Thailand.

Are you saying that you will then be denied to enter Thailand again? Following this logic, what are you supposed to do? (you are not allowed to enter Cambodia, and you can't re-enter Thailand) Spend the rest of your life at the border between the 2 countries?

You will be denied entry, yes. Same thing can happend if you fly, as stated in another thread here (someone going to Japan from Thailand and being denied entry).

You are unlikely be denied entry but given a short period to precede to Don Muang and depart Thailand. You will not receive a normal entry without visa stay (unless you are really lucky).

At the international airports in Thailand generally they do not check wether you have a stamp in your p/port from another country just preceeding your arrival, as you might be arriving straight from home without having entered another country.

Arriving over a land border, it is obvious that you must have been in the neighbouring coutry just before arriving. No trace in your p/port, something is fishy.

Does Poi Pet issue visas? I thought only Thai embassys and Thai immagration officies issued visas.

They are not talking about a Thai visa.

Indeed you could legitimately have travelled abroad and not received entry or exit stamps e.g EU citizens travelling BKK-LON-BKK (expensive just for a visa run).

However in order to ensure you have exited Thailand and not just loitered in the departure lounge for a few hours/days they now require you produce your boarding pass.

There are so many cheapo airlines flying BKK-SIN now if you live convenient to Don Muang you could do a day trip visa run there. Less hassle than Poi-Pet at weekends and if you book well in advance probably not much more expensive.
