Gable End Murals

Featured Replies

Read this article in the Independent today and I must admit I was surprised to read certain experts bemoaning the loss of sectarian murals. I mean do they really think people having to walk past such things on a day to day basis is a good thing?

To my mind they ought to be remembered in a museum in various forms....if that means recreating the entire piece as it was then fair enough but surely there is a limit to what is essentially to some a tourist attraction?

Just wondered what your views on this are....sorry the link has missed out one or two bits from the experts which was in the actual paper...if I find them I shall add.

I would have thought the quicker they were all destroyed, the better. The Irish have a reputation for never forgetting anything... the Orange parades celebrating the Battle of the Boyne, constant reference to the Troubles, and so on. Should we have kept the bombsites in London, or the ruined cities of Dresden, Sarajevo and so on?

A large part of the reason why Ireland keeps having sectarian disturbances is because the Irish never forget. Perhaps it's time they did!

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to fulfill it
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to fulfill it

And those who cannot forget the past are still living in it.
