Border Run To Myanmar From Hua Hin

I need to make a border run for an entry stamp in the next ten days. I have done this many times from Chiang Mai or Bangkok (usually taking a van or bus) but never from HH. Can this be done? Easily? What is the name of the town where you cross over? How far and how long from Hua Hin? Directions get there? Can one drive a motorcycle there? Is that adviseable? Do they run a van service? Any problems with just crossing over, getting the stamp, and coming back? If anyone can provide information or advise on doing this I would appreciate it. Thanks.

The visa run company is located directly opposite Hua Hin train station, they run a minibus service to Ranong.

The trip is a one day affair and takes between 11-15 hours there and back depending on roads/hold ups etc.

They only run once or twice a week and are usually fully booked so you need to book in advance.

Google the place for a number, if you can't find anything on Google PM me and I will get there number when I go past the place.

Last time i heard the trip was 2500 baht including the visa fee but that may have changed since.

Beside RANONG visa run by Van, you can do it also by blue/white regulary bus. As I hear from Rayong you need also a time for trip by boat to Myanmar and back, by this consider also .... there is also the possibility make it to Mukdahan / Savannakhet Laos very comfortable by the yellow bus direct from Hua Hin (bus station after tunnel under the runway from airport Hua Hin) .... pass entry to Palm Hill, 200 meter at left. But I see sometimes this bus also close big clock and Market village

Cambodia I would not propose for the momentbut possible with Jack from Bangkok http://www.jackgolf.com/en/visa_run/

Hi,

I did this trip in May on a Phantom 250 CC, drove down at 6am, and did the visa the next day at the Andaman Club crossing (about 750 baht all inclusive of boat and immigration fees), which is much nicer than the regular cheapo crossing in the centre of town. It rained a bit but I managed to stay dry on the way down (full face helmet, jeans, leather jacket) but got soaked on the way back up - but dried up quickly. I was going to take my other bike (CBR 150) but decided on the phantom in the end.

I stayed 2 nights and drove back here, but you could do it there and back in 1 day or 2 days. A friend just did it in 1 day there and back on a CBR 250 (and he's 72 years old).My ass hurt on the return journey (from the bike!!). I did a steady 110 or 120 kph and it took 6-7 hours each way, stopping when it rained and to eat etc

Gas cost about 1500 baht all in, hotel was about 1000 baht for 2 nights - but nothing to do in Ranong so only 1 night needed if at all.

Andaman club is a very nice hotel/resort with casino, duty free etc and inexpensive restaurant. You could even have a night there - very nice place to stay and much easier than going to the regular Ranong pier.

Here are a few pics of my trip:

Thanks Roly,

Great information. As it happens I also have a Honda Phantom ( exactly like yours, even same color -- I took a look at your pictures). If I would have been a bit more forward in my planning I would take the trip like you did. Alas, I am going to make some other arrangements now but next time I may do it on the bike. Frankly I am not used to long bike trips so I would have to be better prepared. Thanks though. If you see a black Phantom around town (with a box on the back) that's probably me. Say hello!

  • 2 weeks later...

i just got back last night from my visa run on this route - took a young lady friend with me in the end.

I would suggest setting off early in the morning from HH and get the Andaman club visa stamp out of the way on the first day - could be a nice place for dinner on the first evening. I did it on the second day and did not get back until 8pm and is a bit scary driving in the dark - although said young lady friend drove the whole 6 hours back and she did not look very scared to be honest.

tinidee hotel in Ranong was quite good value although the beds were rock hard! but 550b aircon, swimming pool, brand new gym, loads of jacuzzis
