Thats all math and weird stuff. Not really trivia per se.

Here is true trivia!

Only got two right - only knew about two of the song titles, let alone the lyrics!

Working in Libya throughout the eighties, only went home a couple of times. One of my favorite places to work. Vietnam is better, Iran was the best.

Math problems are not the same as trivia, I used to play trivial pursuit with the top two students in my hs, they always won. I am sure they just had all the answers memorized.

I did the 60s one... 9/10

Edit: I never knew they had music in the 80s.... B)

had to be the food...middle eastern and north african beat VN cuisine all over the place...on my way to the UK next week on Qatar Airlines and we stop in Doha and the business class lounge has an outstanding arabic mezza with fresh bread...out of a thousand choices for travel the mezza did it fer me...

had to admit that 'bun bo' at 2am with two lovely VN ladies after a party in Dong Hoi had a special appeal at an outside roadside diner on the way back to the digs in Ha Tinh province...the ambiance would've had anything taste exquisite ('tutsi, will ye put down yer vodka? the food's comin'...)

I'm surprised they served vodka in such rustic surroundings.

The former Russian influence maybe?

Mind you, a clear alcoholic liquid can be purchased in similar rural establishments in Thailand.

Definitely not vodka though and removal of false teeth is recommended before quaffing. (It has been known to dissolve plastic). :o

Good call. I screwed up on 'Paper Roses' but the rest were OK.

Yes, 'music' and 'eighties' don't seem to be a match, do they?

Oi, that's my era, leave it alone :)

You wish... you'd have been lucky to hear music in the 80s without your hearing trumpet Thad...

I only turned 20 years old in 1980 <deleted>, mind you I then did spend the next 15 or so years causing irreparable damage to my ears being on stage.

Sorry about that, it's the wisdom, shows a maturity far beyond your years...

That's what it is! B)

No worries J. no slight, no foul.

Can I go into a little tiny rant here (not caused by yourself I will say first)

I've spent my entire life learning, teaching, doing, or all three on a very wide range of subjects. From geology to IT, from Music to cooking, anything that intrigues me my appetite for it used to be voracious, not so much now as naps are assuming an important role, my head is still like a sponge as I have never got out of that learning cycle that happens to most people when they get removed from the educational system, I still have a 'ooo show me' attitude and I welcome new knowledge with open arms even when it contradicts my old knowledge, actually, especially then, as that keeps you thinking, and that is what keeps you alive, that is one of the reasons that I have a bit of a problem with some posters in the general sections of the forum whose opinions are so set in stone that even when they get hit in the face with a ten tonne brick that openly and irascibly contradicts them, they still don't even cede an inch

When it comes to trivia, if I have heard it once, it'll be filed away somewhere inside this six kilos on top of my neck, retrieval can be instant or it could take a while, but if I have heard it once, it will be there.

That's the funny thing about the brain, it works like a muscle, if it isn't grown correctly it will never reach its full potential, whatever potential it does reach, if it isn't exercised regularly after that point it will stagnate or decline.

BTW, 50's 60's and 70's music was all good, but for me 80's was best..... it's a beer and women thing ;)

I love trivia, it was what attracted me to the internet... a gold mine of trivia.

I can spend hours reading Wikipedia.

Sorry, Thad - gotta disagree with you here.

Don't like either beer or wimmin in their 50's, 60's or 70's - and especially not in their eighties!

Wonder why the French are so unpopular?

JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's .

DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO, said he wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible.

Rusk responded

"Does that include those who are buried here?"

There was a conference in France where a number of international

engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a

break, one of the French engineers came back into the room saying 'Have

you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft

carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intended

to do, bomb them?'

A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly:

Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several

hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply

Emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three

cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day,

They can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water

each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in

transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck.

We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?'

A Royal Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included

Admirals from the U.S. , English, Canadian, Australian and French

Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large

group of Officers that included personnel from most of those countries.

Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a

French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many

languages, the English learn only English. He then asked, 'Why is it

that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than

speaking French?'

Without hesitating, the British Admiral replied,Maybe it's because the Brit's, Canadians, Aussie's, Kiwis and Americans, arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German.'

AND THIS STORY FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE ABOVE...

Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane.

At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on.

"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically.

Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously.

"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."

The Englishman said, The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."

"Impossible. You English always have to show your passports on arrival in France !"

The English senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained,

''Well, when I came ashore at Gold Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchman to show a passport to."
