Anyone Else On True Gold Package?

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm on True Gold 4Mb/1Mb service. The 4Mb is local & the 1Mb is supposed to be international.

The past few weeks, the international bandwidth has been really choked off. I'm getting speeds as low as 64kbps for the connections I use which cannot be cached (trading data). If I browse Youtube, which I presume is chached here, I see bandwidth up to 5Mbps.

Is this just me or are others having this issue too?

Thanks

Pete

Jesus christ, why you even bother such expensive packages?

I'm using regular TOT which has 7.5 Gb + 3Gb direct connection to Europe which is usually under-utilized. With the help of right VPN (not for bypassing internet block) you can always get 1Mb+ speeds internationally.

Thanks to UK vpn, my ping times are better than ever (270 ms to europe via seabone)

Opps did I read this right or did you swap a G for a M - 7,500 megabits or 7.5gb - Love to know where you got that in Thailand?

Pete the 4/1 refers to localnet traffic within Thailand only to my knowledge.

Where it is 4mb download i.e. from the local internet to you and 1mb upload i.e. from you to the local internet only, nothing to do with separate local net nor international net speeds. Well that is what the contracts say.

My speeds have been really bad the past few weeks. It's up and down all day. Just ran the test and my speeds are:

181kbps down

416kbps up

137ms latency

I tried google earth today and gave up. I'm on a TOT 4mb package here just south of Pattaya.

You are correct....first number is the "in-Thailand" download speed on a good day; second number is the "in-Thailand" upload speed on a good day. I expect the international download speed will average out to be a 25% of the "in-Thailand" based on my experience with the TOT ADSL 4Mb/512Kb & 6Mb/512Kb packages (I averaged around 1.5Mb) and the True 20MB/2Mb cable packaged (I average around 5Mb to US/Europe...a little over 10Mb to Singapore that is more of a direct line)

7500 Mbits to Italy via Tinet and 3000 Mbits to UK via Tinet again.

I got that info from TOTIIG Map.

OK got it, you are saying this is the ISP's lines and not yours, sorry I thought you were saying this was your line, thus the comment where do you get this in Thailand?

Yes this is one part of TOT's international connection. When you use a UK VPN that routes trough seabone, you get amazing speed.

These graphics are a bit old.. but I assume what Mura's referring to are the international data routes listed below... not what speeds he gets for his local connection.

Talking all these international main undersea/continental fiber lines which have GigaBits of bandwidth is all fine and good; but unfortunately, Thailand's international bandwidth is way short of the bandwidth needed because when people are getting accurate speed test results versus the bogus/faster than light/10ms ping times/downloading from a local hidden cache server/etc., they are probably averaging around 25% of their package's advertised speed for international websites/servers.

Now once all the Thai ISPs starting buying 2 to 3 times more international bandwidth, we may start getting 6Mb international speed on a 6Mb package, 20Mb international speed on a 20Mb package, etc...etc...etc.

And we need to keep in the mind the great, great, great majority of Thai ISP customer's are Thais which focus on "in-Thailand" web sites/servers versus international web sites/servers. So, I expect Thai ISP expansion of their international bandwidth will be a slow gradual process until more Thais start using international web sites and the price of buying/leasing international bandwidth gets lower for the Thai ISPs.

These days, almost every westerner I know is downloading movies and TV, including yours truly.

This has got to be affecting speeds.

More and more, ISP's in the west are limiting bandwidth and charging extra for heavy usage. It's only a matter of time before the Thais do the same.
