PHUKET: -- More than 100 racing cars representing 40 teams will be zooming around Saphan Hin in Phuket Town on September 17-18 as the Phuket Honda Racing Fest 2011 comes to town.

“This is the fifth year of Honda Motor Sport racing [in Thailand] and the second time this event will be held in Phuket,” said Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha at the press conference this morning at the Anuphas Honda Showroom on Phang Nga Road in Phuket Town.

Up for grabs in the three race categories – the Jazz one-design race, the Civic one-design race and the Honda Pro Cup – will be trophies donated by HRH Princess Soamsawali.

The weekend event will also be used to promote the new Honda Jazz 2011.

“There will also be many family activities under the theme of ‘Honda Fun Town’, including a Hall of Fame for people to visit, a Honda go-kart track, an ‘auto salon’ competition and activities for kids,” said Oranuch Preukwattananon, Marketing Director of Honda Auto (Thailand).

The 2.1-kilometer track around the peninsular of reclaimed land that is Saphan Hin will be closed to traffic over the race weekend, but open free to spectators.

“People are welcome to come and watch our Honda precision drivers show what they can do, too,” she added.
