Phuket Police yet to question tour driver attackers

PHUKET: -- Kamala Police have been issued a court summons to bring in two drivers for questioning over the savage beating of a Phuket tour company driver last Sunday.

“I will give them a week to come and see me. If it’s more than a week, a second summons will be issued. If they still don’t come, I will apply to the court for arrest warrants,” said Duty Officer Anek Mongkol.

The two men wanted for questioning have been identified as: Thanawut Poksakul, 25, and Sitthikorn Boonsri, 28.

They are accused of being among six men who attacked Preecha Choowong as he picked up guests from the Cape Sienna resort in Kamala.

Mr Preecha, a driver for the Kok Chang Safari park in Kata Noi, was hit on the head with an iron bar and his car windscreen was smashed in the attack.

His shocked Australian tourist guests were in the car at the time.

“At this stage, we are looking only for these two men as these are the only men Mr Preecha could identify from the photos we showed him,” Lt Col Anek said.

Kamala Police are willing to mediate between Mr Preecha and his attackers to avoid further conflict, said Lt Col Anek.

If charged and found guilty of assault in the case, each of the men will be subject to a one-month prison term and pay a 1,000 baht fine, Lt Col Anek said.

So ... at best a 1,000 baht fine, one month in jail (unlikely). No wonder there is so much violence.... :annoyed:

What kind of law enforcement is this:

“I will give them a week to come and see me. If it’s more than a week, a second summons will be issued. If they still don’t come, I will apply to the court for arrest warrants,” said Duty Officer Anek Mongkol.
For assault and vandalism they send out a letter asking them nicely to please come? What a joke!

They really should have stuck with "Amazing Thailand". It is just so much more appropriate, in so many more situations. Nothing can capture the essence of this place more than "Amazing".

>> was hit on the head with an iron bar

This alone should be worthy of a few years in jail. Most civilized countries would bring up serious charges if hitting someone over the head with a tire iron.
