Changing From Ed Visa To Work Permit

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I'm arriving in Bangkok soon to study Thai for 6 months (and yeah, I actually intend to study), on a 6 months ed visa. However I might get a job offer on a foreign TV-series being done in phuket, starting in December. To work there I assume I need a work permit (wich my employee will provide). Will it be a problem for me to change from an ed-visa to a work permit?

Cheers

A work permit can not be issued on an ED visa from my understanding so yes it will likely require exit to obtain the correct visa after making application for the work permit.

Lopburi3 is correct, you cannot change from an Ed visa to a Non B in Thailand and you would have to exit the country and take your documents for your new visa to the nearest Thai Embassy for application.

Your Employer must supply an inch or more of documets for you to get a W.P.and to change your visa type and you will have to leave the country go to a Thai Embassy with the paperwork to get the proper visa. I have done this many times. Is your Employer a Thai company or a foreign company.? Depending on the answer it may not be possible. Visas and work permits are two different things, but related. Lopburi being a Thai has probably never had to go thru the process herself.

Believe that is a first - I am not Thai nor am I her. But you are right I never went through the process myself. :D

Before you go anywhere or any place, visit the Immigration people first and let THEM advise you.

You won't be the first who will go abroad to obtain a visa, while a visa-change was possible after all.

Good advice, thanks :)
