:D A High Riders give you a Beautifull View of the Landscape , Flora and Forna before it dumps you into it.. Lower is Safer than Higher. The Higher the Truck, smaller the Brain of the Driver, same applies to big fancy wheels, complete prats generally. They need all the silly traction aids to give you back the stability of a basic truck.. .Oh im Wrong am i ?? Ive seen about 5 trucks upside down in central drain ditches from C.M. to Mango during the night, but thats coincidence isnt it that they are all just Vigoes and Clatter Maxes, not one correct ride highter upsidedown like a dead Cockroach. If you can defy gravity believe the Kids..These hi ride defenders

How do you know what there ride height was if they were upside down ?

They have these things called STICKERS, im supprised a Boy Racer hasnt noticed them, If you read through the 20 or so you eventualy come to the name.:cheesy:

:cheesy: So you rummage around in the undergrowth of ever accident you see to see it's ride height, ha, don't think so .

Me, kwasaki, kata and many others have driven 4x4 Vigo's for years and l have never been near having a roll over. We all are aware of the natives quality, stupidity and plain daft driving which will account for stuff you see in a ditch.

In the 4x4 and Prerunner hand book it CLEARLY warns that is a vehicle designed to go of road cos of it's ride height and so care must be taken on the highway. Good advice because of it's higher centre of gravity as opposed to a saloon but is no different to a van, bus,or HGV, you use your loaf (head) and master your ride. Easy really, well for most except perhaps wandrinstar who hasn't even mastered a spell check download. Sorry, sorry about the grammar thing.

you v gotta be kidding on the bt50/ranger

In 2007 I was driving a Vigo 4x4 auto 4 door most of the time in Phuket. On occasions I swapped with my friends bt50highrider. same micelin tyres, slightly wider on Vigo. same milage. the road from chalong to kata is plenty of curves and over a hill. the first curve can with ease be entered at 120kmh with vigo, but at 80kmh the bt50 already is drifting. more curves and the difference gets even larger

Maybe 2007 model is different ?

next door has a 2007 Vigo, just been out and looked Michelin tyres 215 x 16 and 3 doors away has a standard Vigo Michelin tyres 185 x 15

Our Mazda Hi-Racer + also Michelin tyres 245 x 16

yep, I v got a few hundred clicks in Vigos and Fortuna.

Fortuna better traction due to full time 4x4 and longer rear suspension travel

but Vigo more easy to control, as easy to provoke a drift. Driven actively, chose of track/balance and provoked drift, it takes an effort to make it flip. driven lazy, any highrider flips easily. Its all about keeping the speed up, so i just cant afford having one rearwheel in the air :D

no doubt accord can do it all more quickly with higher safety margins, but they are unable to carry my stuff and negotiate mud tracks and rivers and flooded roads

In a highrider, do it right, or do it more slowly :)

Daft reply T.A. you lot can drive. Poor old Kwakers drove round in full time 4Wd, terrified of pruning the Trees. Spell Check is a Proton, plus i dont give a rats ass about Teachers. Hanging the tail out is my speciality, those nasty aids make me push them harder. Worn Tyres are my Fav,they give up quicker. I want to Break Free..!!! The Hangovers no fun, just a Big Blob.:D

and the 265/65-17 being another tyre entirely, improves handling, steering and braking greatly. Riding a 2006 Fortuna on 16inchers a couple of weeks, and found myself to limit it to 140kmh due to tyres and brakes

Vigos tail is looong even on paved good wide roads, not to mention mud tracks with bushes on both sides :D

Kwaks drove his ride how HE wanted to have fun :D, yes/no.

Where l live we have a twisty road around the lake and at times have had morons sitting on my bumper so my FUN, shove it into 4x4 and floor it, never fails to leave them praying to their fluffy dice, and MY fun. AND never put it in the lake for you to inspect eh.

Love a good thread hijack!, now lets get back too air backs/bogs/bags, or what ever the OP was on about.

biggrin.gif

No hijack :), the OP can learn a lot about stuff from comments made by folk who actually OWN or OWNED a particular ride and not from those who just dislike a particular ride.

With all honesty, if l thought my ride was in any way dangerous l would say so here. :)

yep

and I just admitted a few posts back the 2006 Fortuna with tiny brakes and 16 inchers makes me limit it to 140kmh

the exact reason why i in 2006-late 2008 needed saloons like camry and accord to do my 4 time a month Hua Hin- Phuket trips

Right - so the higher up you are sitting a truck equals more safety? interesting theory.

Absolutely - improved visibility makes a huge difference.

Better to avoid an accident, than rely on your car's crash saftey features ;)

And with today's low jelly molds or low truck, any impact would be lower down on a 4x4 or other higher truck greatly reducing injury to upper body, One of the reasons l bought a 4x4 truck. :)

yep, 2 ways to reduce impact from a T bone. Raise truck or have plenty of side airbags.

the raised truck recieves impact where it is the strongest, floor and frame/chassie

Your 4 x 4 Hilux is 125 mm (5in) more in height than my standard Hilux, yep thats going to make a whole lot of difference in a front ender with a soi dog or Kubota. Improved visibility, you have a magnified windscreen or something?, No, I am sitting up higher and can see the top of Somchai's crash helmet while at the lights, <deleted>.

I do'nt buy into the higher up, the safer you are <deleted>, I drove Scania's/Volvo,DAF's in the haulage trade and just because I was higher up, it did'nt make me feel any safer. Drive within the road conditions, the Law and watch out for all the idiots in cars plus end any discussion with "I've driven more miles in reverse than you have forward"

You miss under stand my post. Try again.

As for your HGV's, l drove them too but l didn't feel safe as there was nothing body or engine or chassis wise in front of me, if l hit another trucks rear l was squashed meat.

You are right about 5 inches which brings my body mass higher than the impact of most stuff that might hit me. :)

Well, I call <deleted> back.

Just a couple of months back, a Toyota friend got so sick of me ragging on the Prius that they bought another one (the TRD Sportivo) around to my house in an effort to let me & the Mrs test drive it, and let me see the light.

No way was I going to be seen driving it, so the push-start button went to the Mrs. Our very first major manouvre was a u-turn so we could head out onto the highway and give it a solid trashing - but our plan was almost ended when a dinky Honda City coming from the other direction also decided to make a u-turn...

Now, we had two choices: wait for the City to move first, or push our nose out into the oncoming fast lane traffic before we could see <deleted> was coming.

As it turned out, it was a Mexican stand-off, so the Mrs had no choice but to edge forward for a peek, and almost got taken out by a pickup truck doing the speed of sound...

So it was straight back to the ranch before the lack of visibility (and the embarrasment) killed us - thus another lost opportunity for Toyota to get me to see the light of their little overpiced POS :)

This situation would never have happened in the Cayenne, Pajero or any of our pickups - because in all of them, you can see right over the top of these little dinky cars, and those dinky low-riding pickups.

I'm getting much better at the wandrinstar language, so will take a crack.

No-one said you worked in an office TransAm. You're probably like me - the only time you're in an office is to steal their supplies of Nescafe.

I noticed that the sidewalls of my tires have more information on them than what's the back of a sticker-infested Isuzu D-max (note: I added the sticker infested bit). But the part of that that caught my attention was the fact that all that info was on the outside of the tire. I think this would mind-fark office types - they're so used to reading books that they would expect all the real information to be on the inside, not the outside, wouldn't they? :D
