Printers With Side Ink

Anybody have any knowledge where to buy in CR and your expierence with them ? As per discussion below? I am tired of buying cartridges that dry out when i go away for a few months...i have tried the hypodermic needle refills and am tired of that as doesn't work right on my HP. I would happily toss my HP to buy a canon or anything that has been altered to hold a lot of ink at a reasonable price.

I have this one and it is good-you close to the ink pressing up a role on the side, and by put in those stoppers on the top of the ink tank-really good.

Even when I dont use it for a periode,I dont notice eny reduction of ink and when I only fill up to 50% of capasity,it will not dry out eather.

Cheap one, but really good-bought in KVC shop.Canon/print/scan and copy.MP 250 serie.

KVC seem to have good deals on printers with an Ink Tank.

you may still get problems if you don't use the printer for a while. Its not so much the ink drying out in the tank or cartridge, its more to do with the ink drying or hardening on the fine print heads I suspect.

maybe the Heads just need to be removed and sealed in some sort of container or maybe cling film or something.

When I was at Central yesterday DIS(or IDS ... the computer shop that has no doors) had a Canon MP287 on display with the ink tanks on the side.

I asked how much and he said 2900 baht.

Standard MP287 without side ink tanks can be got for around 2200 baht (JIB Computers).

I've been looking for a printer/scanner the last month or so, but haven't decided what to get.. I mainly want it scanning with only occasional printer use though.

If you just want the printer, my old school had a Canon IP2770 with side tanks and that worked OK, except sometimes the colours were not very even.

I think you must need to flush the tanks out occasionally or something. Or maybe they were using cheap ink??

My experience was that the tanks need frequent usage or they develop an ink gap in the ink lines. I finally had to remove the tanks and manually refill the cartridges. There may be a trick to it but I never discovered it.

Ok thanks to all of you for the info. Sounds like just what i need.

Where is KVC? I'd like to check there as well as the place in Central.

I bought my printer a Canon MP 287 in KVC .

I opted for the printer without the side tanks because 1. There is no warranty with the printer and 2. They do give problems if they are not used frequently.

I just get the cartridges filled up.

A google map of KVC. Its on the road behind the general hospital.

As said, in mine there is a system which drive a nidel into the ink pipes to clean it-I only once had a problem, and that was when I filled the tank to the top-only use 50% of the tank and it will work just fine.

I have a HP 4500 I bought this year.

Just standard cartridges etc but I was away nearly 4 months and when I got back I fired it up and it printed straight away.

I rarely use a printer, maybe once a week and I've never had a problem.

Hi,

I bought my Cannon MP258 with side tanks from KVC, tel 053-756309, works a treat just seems strange not having to replace the cartridges. Just refilled the tanks after about one year.

Take care,

Peter

The trick is to used it weekly so the head does not block up due to the evaporation.

Other wise you have to do a head clean, which uses more ink.

When i do my own refills i have a little rubber stopper which i remove, fill in the machine and place the rubber stopper in again.

The trick is to always refill at about 50% use, that way the foam in the tank does not dry out too much.

The side tank system is for people who do a lot of printing, and it easier to refill out side of the printer. IMHO. :)

I am not sure if this is the right place for this fix I've found. If everything works on your Canon Pixma printer except black??

Check all the usuals;

print head alignment,

clean, deep clean,

wash print head luke warm water dry carefully,

reinstall latest drivers etc.

Try printer USB mode on any OTHER PC.

Download and use canon My printer utility from their site. This is a diagnostic programme for your printer.

If all else fails it is probably the printer head. It costs more to repair/replace than a budget printer!!I have a Canon Pixma IP400R. Couldn't print in Black. I had spare black cartridges (smaller size) so I replaced Cyan Magenta and yellow cartridges with black cartridges.

I select font colour to standard green (the default green in MS Office). After printing a few "green blocks" to purge old colour still in head. Hey presto can now print in black!! It also helps to set printer preferences to high quality.

If you are like me and want to screw the last ounce out of every device this will work with most Canon Pixma range as the ink cartridges are the same size for small black and colours.

This is for anyone who mostly prints black text. As you are basically turning a non functioning colour printer into a BW printer.

If I had to buy a new printer - it would be a Cannon - that one where you don't need cables to connect your notebook to the printer. This one uses Wifi signal to transfer data. How much COOLER can that get? Costs about 4 k at KVC. Comes equipped with Ink Tank. This model can scan documents, photo copy and send faxes. Only problem is it's a bit clunky so it takes lots of desktop space. I think the only things it can't do is toast bread and wash clothes.
