Empty Condos Near The Sailom Hotel

Featured Replies

Stayed at the Sailom Hotel on Petchakasam Road (down from the intercontinental)...recently for several days. we were there from Wed through to Saturday night.

Walking at dusk on the beach near the hotel couldn't help but notice several very large condominium buildings that were all but empty. There were a couple of lights showing but 95% seemed unoccupied. Just wondering if anyone knows if these are condos they couldn't sell, holiday condos, timeshare? Do people stay in them? just curious.

Those high rise condos on the beach are mostly owned by Bangkok Thais. I live on the hill west of Takiab and can see them at night from my balcony and during the week they are always dark. Usually on weekends, and especially on holiday weekends, they are lit up like Christmas trees.

They are also very expensive to buy nowadays because of the law passed a few years ago that no more high rise buildings can be built adjacent to the beach here. We were looking at possibly buying one at the time and when the law passed, they doubled in price almost overnight.

I guess that is good they have limited development along the beach. We enjoyed our time in hua hin, looks like it would be a nice place to live. Not sure i could afford the beach strip rolleyes.gif
