Internet Provider

Just moving into new house soon, and condo management has offered two choices for internet connection. True or TOT. TOT seems to be a bit cheaper, but in terms of bandwidth, reliability of service and customer support which one is better?

Which of the two is faster an more reliable depends largely on your location.

I started with True and had nothing but troubles and almost no service. The actual speed was never more than about 66% of what was promised. As soon as it started to rain, True went off-line until had enough and switched to TOT.

Now I have TOT and the speed they deliver is in fact more than promised. I usually get between 10 and 12 Mb/s and the contract is for 8Mb/s.

The downside is that just last week-end TOT went off-line for more than 2 days and that's just it. Nothing I could do.

I don't regret having switched to TOT, but that might be true (no pun intended) only for me.

TOT for 4 years now. They have really lifted their game with very few drop outs maybe 5 or 6 a week for short periods

speed is good

TOT now for 5 years in 2 different locations with no problems.

Don't know about True, never used them.

When I was on the TOT 4Mb and 6Mb ADSL plans for a couple of years they were very reliable uptime-wise (however, their old 2Mb Goldcyber plan sucked), but the 4Mb/6Mb plans didn't do streaming video very well....a lot of pausing. Recently I switched to a True "cable" 20Mb/2Mb plan since True recently installed cable TV and internet in our moobaan and the TOT max ADSL plan speeds to my moobaan was still only 6Mb. Whether TOT or True will work best for you depends a lot on your location, the quality of phone/ADSL lines and equipment in the area, etc. Highly recommend you ask some close neighbors if possible as to what they use/recommend since location can make a BIG difference.

Thanks for advice. The location is close to BTS On Nut. Good advice regarding asking the neighbors.

TOT for over 4 years now and very few problems. North Thailand and here in Pattaya.

The odd problems I had were fixed speedily, sometimes over the phone.

Good speeds for me.

Agreed, although l have 3bb, my pal had problems with TOT so l got on to their help line and after a few pleasant calls secured his 6mb. :)

Many people have problems whoever they are with, just look at the wiring in your street and its not hard to imagine why.

If you can get on the newer Cable network of True (Docsis3) 8 - 100 Mbit ultra high speed internet, I would say go for that, but you have not told us where you are.

BTS On Nut, unfortunately the condo does not have docsis available, otherwise would have definitely gone for that one.
