BTW, you all are able to insert a small image and when you click on it there's an overlay with the real sized picture.

How do you do that?

I can't figure it out...

That reminds me Tywais, what ever happened to those owls you found as I'm sure those are them in the pics.

There are two ways of adding images. 1 is using the Insert Image function which is linked to an offsite image. 2nd, is add as an attachment. The 2nd one is uploaded from your hard drive to Thaivisa's storage and is the one that is automatically thumbnailed.

Click on Browse and select the image from your hard drive you would like to display. Then click on Attach This File to do the actual upload. You can then put your cursor in the post and select 'Add to Post' on the right side of the Attachments banner.

They made out ok. One of our staff took them back home and was able to release them after they got stronger. Oddly enough, same thing happened this year and another set had to be taken care of. :)

Ian - would i be right so assume that's the interior of the Meridian?

Aitch

I believe so. I stayed there about 4 years ago when the Royal Flower festival was on and it was the only place in town I could rent a room until my usual place had a vacancy. I have photos of Wat Umong, but haven't down loaded them into my usual gallery where I store my pictures for the internet.

Nope. Cannot be Meridien looking at the view. Also I think the Meridien is less tacky. ;)

Looking at the view, I think it's the Chiang Mai Plaza hotel on Sridonchai Rd.

I believe you... Only in Thailand. As much as it might be of an annoyance, it is one of the things I love about this country... anything goes. You just have to be aware of it and prepared for it.

And thanks again to all those that contribute to this most interesting thread.

The "energy" that seems to thrive in the Chinese market area of Chiang Mai never ceases to amaze me. I just feel sorry for all those that had goods on the street level and basement level during the recent flooding. And, I can only be amazed at those that don't complain but just pick up and carry on after losing everything.

Yes I agree on both counts Ian!

That Chinese market area is buzzing. Also just down from that pic where they sell flowers....

I am always amazed at the prices. Here in the US a dozen roses can be $50 or more if it is Valentines/Mothers Day etc.

Yet there for a just over a dollar you get a big bunch of beautiful roses....amazing

Yes thanks to all for a very interesting thread.

Thanks for the photo, Dave. It's good to see the water gone and merchants back selling. Not that many tourists yet, though.

Thanks for that, Greenside. I think I'll have time to take you up on it this year.

I always think of orchids as synonymous with Thailand, and the Royal show in Chiang Mai has one of the greatest displays.

You don't think of Canada as having orchids, but we do have a few varieties like the Calypso Bulbosa

I was curious as to what camera you used as those are very nice, dynamic color photos. Took a peek and see it was from a Pentax Optio-S50 5 Mpixel 3X zoom camera. Quite impressive and shows low pixel count cameras still can do a good job. I have a Konica Minolta DiImage A200 with 8Mpixels and it takes some of the best, most consistent photos of any digital P&S I've had.

I always think of orchids as synonymous with Thailand, and the Royal show in Chiang Mai has one of the greatest displays.

That camera has long since disappeared. I gave it to the husband of my ex-wife and it was eventually stolen. I originally bought it because I wanted a small camera to put in a waterproof housing.

Pentax_and_case_1_Em.jpg

A year after I bought it Pentax came out with waterproof cameras.. the Pentax W10. That made my Optio-S50 redundant. I now have a Pentax W30 and it's okay providing I have enough light. It doesn't do so well at night, even with the flash.

The little Pentax point and shoot cameras have very good close up lenses. Their failing is in low light. And, because we have to reduce photos so much just to get them on the internet, you can get away with a cheaper camera for most pictures. The advantage of the big, high quality SLR cameras is when cropping to a tiny portion of the original picture. Or, if you want to use interchangeable lenses.

well , the technology pope David Pogue of the New York Times has been preaching since long that 6 million pix are enough, more is just a marketing hype to tell uneducated consumer that more means better , like horse power.

Camera producers are slowly scaling back to say 10 million.

Size of a pixel/sensor is what matters, not quantity.

My friend Viv at My Place Lounge on Loi Kroh Road

How did she get butterflies suck in her eyelids? cheesy.gif

Hours in front of the mirror.

I don't care, I'm in love. Especially if she's female.

She most certainly is.
