Thai Border Police Deny Killing Chinese Ship Crews

I haven't seen it in the Thai press, but it could be there: Chinese media are reporting that nine Thai border police have turned themselves in for executing 13 ship Chinese crew on two boats on the Mekong River.

Actually, I am not surprised, and the Chinese reaction seems a bit muted. Were they executed for drug running?

Even the most hardened soldiers would have to have some strong reason to kill 13 men, at least some of whom were blindfolded and handcuffed.

The Golden Triangle certainly remains a murky and savage world.

Us Golden Trianglers usually lead pretty safe lives in our murky and savage world.

In fact if I had to use the adjectives "murky" and "savage" on any part of Thailand my eyes would turn further south.... B)

Correction: I now see that the soldiers have denied the charges and have only been arrested.

Mods: Can we correct my mistaken headline?

Sure, what would you like it to say?

BTW, it was a news item in today's issue of That Paper We Are Not Allowed To Quote.

Article said the officers involved turned themselves in for questioning.

There was no mention in the article that I remember about any claim of innocence.

Ya, you're a real "class act" yourself -- posting a completely inane reply. Chiang Rai is not attracting the great intellectuals of the foreign world, I see.
