Happy Loy your kratong and make sure it does'nt sink!

Some put strain of hair, some cut their finger nails etc and put them into the kratong to flow down with the water.

the night sky in Chiang Mai is just spectacular tonight!

just loy'ed my kratong along with four other people in our zoo's duck pond/ with waterfall... two of my kids and two very homesick thai workers... took us three hours to fold the papers to make 'banana leaf' thingys , used styrafoam as a base, and purple and yellow flowers... moon was red in beginning but at 21:00 (israel time , they wanted to cooncide more or less with thai happenings) the moon was high and white...

they really looked like lotus flowers from buddhist art, as they floated (we added sparklers to heighten the effect), the ducks did not like the incense!

Well, can I just say that I Loy krathonged twice (is that against the rules?)

Anyway, the first time, a foreign friend gave a krathong and the site was full of "commercial" farangs. My krathong didn't fare too well- it kinda burnt out within 10 mins of being launched.

The 2nd krathong was given to me by a sincere Thai person and my krathong floated away, burning into the far distance for a long time............. it floated and flickered and gave me encouragement way off into the night.

Krathong me up, I'm a believer!!!!

I had to do it twice! My first krathong started heading towards an inflatable runabout, and I was afraid that the candle and incense would pop it! The owner soon came by and reversed his boat right over my krathong!

The second one was much more successful and floated off into Phang Nga Bay with the candle ablaze and incence burning gently.
