Hi,

Does your door already have a curtain? Do you just want to buy the silver material backing? Most people buy both at the same time; almost all curtain shops offer the UV backing attached with velcro so it can be detached when cleaning. The price is usually quoted in baht/m2 then a labor charge is added. The price depends on the thickness, quality and manufacturer of the material and size of the job. If you're just wanting the silver backing material, then 200b/m sounds fine for good quality material on a small job like a terrace door. You can get way cheaper, but lower quality material won't last as long.

You have to be really careful that they understand that you want 100 percent no light coming through (if that's what you want). Say it ten times and make them repeat it.

I'm still annoyed when I think about that <deleted> in Chiang Mai who sold me blackout curtains that didn't block out the light. Just so he could make an extra 100 baht or so.....

That's interesting, I did something similar; I purchased curtains first and then realized I needed the silver backing. I've never thought before about the price and I can't remember exactly how it was calculated in the shop. It was much less than I assumed. I have 8 curtains of 90cm by 180cm so 103.68m2 and 7 curtains of 90cm by 128cm, so 56.44m2. The total area was 160.128m2. One shop quoted THB8,800, so 54b/m2 and I ended up purchasing them from a friend's wife who owns a curtain shop, she did it for THB6,000 so 37b/m2. Best of all she gave me two extra ones. I remember the first shop had a samples catalog and I couldn't feel much difference between the samples and the one in my friend's wife's shop. Anyhow I was way off with my earlier post; 200b/m2 for the backing.

Before I bought the condo I hadn't considered what a nightmare the windows would be; I need the silver backing to block light at night so I can sleep and to reflect some of the heat from sunlight during the day. I got a quote from Lamina to film the windows but haven't yet decided about the grade; it's hard because if you get too dark you need the light on overcast days and then people can see in at night if you open the curtains and lights. Then you need privacy from lace curtains. The idea situation is: window film to block UV, lace curtains for privacy, silver backing to block light and heat and then curtains for aesthetics.
